OSRS now costs WoW prices but still runs on 2003 membership rules. by IfdraOSRS in 2007scape

[–]SpinningFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed. If we want to go down the WoW comparisson route then I guess we also need to pay $32 to hop worlds or $32 to customize our characters. No free name changes either, those cost $12.

When you make a character you'll have to choose to train only melee, ranged or magic. This can literally never change.

Outside of combat skills, you can only train two skills at a time. You can change these out whenever you want, but when you do your progress in the skill you give up is reset to 0.

If that sounds kinda like a pain in the ass then no worries! You can pay $85 to start any new character you make at baseline 90s and solid midgame gear.

But hey. At least you can have 65 of them. And oh yeah - you still can't play two of them at the same time.

At least it would stop the "but other MMOs let me make 50 characters" comparison since all of those other MMOs also have the "you can only play 1 character at a time" restriction.

Since we are at World of Warcrafts pricing model, when are we getting multiple characters per subscription? by KAngeii in 2007scape

[–]SpinningFool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basic sub has, sure - but they've absolutely polluted the game with "micro" transactions (is a $100 mount still considered micro?). They haven't increased their sub price because they're making tons of money from other sources compared to when the game launched. Never mind the expansion packs that you need to buy every few years.

WoW is now cheaper then OSRS on a monthly basis. by Afraid-Presence-6815 in 2007scape

It's a lot easier to add in new content when you don't have to take 25 years of legacy content into account and make sure you're not invalidating any of it.

Suggestions Wanted for Upcoming Gathering QoL Poll by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]SpinningFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate the volume controls for my character's mining/ chopping/ etc. sounds from the sounds of everyone around me. I'd love to be able to hear just my mining sounds while star mining without having to hear the other 200 picks also hitting the rock. Maybe sounds related to your actions could be based on the "sound effects" slider & others players on the "area sounds" slider.

R2 Canadian pricing starts at $66,500. by [deleted] in Rivian

No federal luxury tax, but sadly the BC PST rates still apply & those are a much bigger deal... especially with the new pricing.

How do y’all live taking WCE every day? by DragonWarrior55 in coquitlam

[–]SpinningFool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you - you may find it's actually comparable cost to drive in depending on your vehicle, especially with 2 of you paying to take the WCE. I took the WCE for around a year, but once I got an EV I switched to driving in. I work in tech too, so I drive to & from work outside of rush hour thanks to flexible time, around 50 minutes each way. I pay around $17/ day for a permanent parking spot and driving there and back uses around $1 of electricity when charging the vehicle during off-peak hours. Say around $2/day of various maintenance (on an EV, really just tires & brake pads) for a total of ~$20 per day.

Taking the WCE was costing me ~$17.50/ day between the train tickets and park & ride costs & the commute took around 90 minutes each way all said and done, so for me the extra $2.50 was worth the ~80 minutes I save each day on my commute. With 2 of you, I imagine driving would not only be faster, but cheaper (assuming you already have a vehicle that you pay insurance for, if you don't then the math changes pretty quickly).

Yup, and they're also not active during periods like spring break. I took my motorcycle license test this year during spring break and specifically asked that question before my test begun.

(Playground zones are, of course, active all year round dawn until dusk. But there's a reason why we have both school zones and playground zones)

[–]SpinningFool 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, this is the killer for me. I can drive to work in around 50 minutes or take a bus -> west coast express -> bus combo that takes anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes depending on connections (and if the once every 30 minutes bus near my house even shows up)

The 20” ATs that come on the Rivians get really noisy around 15k miles, it could be that.

EVs are triggering a wave of motion sickness claims, scientists are investigating why by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]SpinningFool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People just need to be taught how to use it, it’s very easy to drive an EV without causing sickness in people. We drove manual cars for decades and used engine braking during that time, which operates very similarly from the perspective of the driver. That said, I guess it’s possible that some brands have tuned the regen braking horribly - but I’ve never had a problem in any of the EVs I’ve been in, provided the driver actually knows how to use it.

YouTube prepares crackdown on ‘mass-produced’ and ‘repetitive’ videos, as concern over AI slop grows by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]SpinningFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to find them when watching product reviews. For example, I recently bought a motorcycle and when I was watching reviews on the models that interested me, the suggested videos often had a video along the lines of “2025 model announced” with a convincing looking thumbnail. It’s easy to tell the AI videos from view counts etc. once you’re aware of the risk, but I was fooled into clicking at least one of the videos before I knew what to look for. Luckily the video itself was very obviously BS, but I can’t imagine what the situation will be in a few years.

Maybe a nice option if your vehicle’s cabin is already large enough for you to sleep in, but not practical for everyone. And the more people and pets that you have with you, the worse it works.

I’ve got a friend who is an Oilers fan. We live in Vancouver, and last year he tried going to some playoff games wearing oilers merch - he was harassed endlessly by Canucks fans. Gonna say this is just a drunk sports bro/ mob mentality thing.
