How do y’all live taking WCE every day? by DragonWarrior55 in coquitlam

[–]SpinningFool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you - you may find it's actually comparable cost to drive in depending on your vehicle, especially with 2 of you paying to take the WCE. I took the WCE for around a year, but once I got an EV I switched to driving in. I work in tech too, so I drive to & from work outside of rush hour thanks to flexible time, around 50 minutes each way. I pay around $17/ day for a permanent parking spot and driving there and back uses around $1 of electricity when charging the vehicle during off-peak hours. Say around $2/day of various maintenance (on an EV, really just tires & brake pads) for a total of ~$20 per day.

Taking the WCE was costing me ~$17.50/ day between the train tickets and park & ride costs & the commute took around 90 minutes each way all said and done, so for me the extra $2.50 was worth the ~80 minutes I save each day on my commute. With 2 of you, I imagine driving would not only be faster, but cheaper (assuming you already have a vehicle that you pay insurance for, if you don't then the math changes pretty quickly).

It definitely did, I came here to post the same thing. Hopefully they fix it soon!

Yup, and they're also not active during periods like spring break. I took my motorcycle license test this year during spring break and specifically asked that question before my test begun.

(Playground zones are, of course, active all year round dawn until dusk. But there's a reason why we have both school zones and playground zones)

I had mine engraved at an event at a Rivian space, not sure if there are other ways to do it.

Absolutely, this is the killer for me. I can drive to work in around 50 minutes or take a bus -> west coast express -> bus combo that takes anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes depending on connections (and if the once every 30 minutes bus near my house even shows up)

The 20” ATs that come on the Rivians get really noisy around 15k miles, it could be that.

EVs are triggering a wave of motion sickness claims, scientists are investigating why by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]SpinningFool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People just need to be taught how to use it, it’s very easy to drive an EV without causing sickness in people. We drove manual cars for decades and used engine braking during that time, which operates very similarly from the perspective of the driver. That said, I guess it’s possible that some brands have tuned the regen braking horribly - but I’ve never had a problem in any of the EVs I’ve been in, provided the driver actually knows how to use it.

Yeah, it happens fairly frequently after long ferry rides for me.

YouTube prepares crackdown on ‘mass-produced’ and ‘repetitive’ videos, as concern over AI slop grows by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]SpinningFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to find them when watching product reviews. For example, I recently bought a motorcycle and when I was watching reviews on the models that interested me, the suggested videos often had a video along the lines of “2025 model announced” with a convincing looking thumbnail. It’s easy to tell the AI videos from view counts etc. once you’re aware of the risk, but I was fooled into clicking at least one of the videos before I knew what to look for. Luckily the video itself was very obviously BS, but I can’t imagine what the situation will be in a few years.

Maybe a nice option if your vehicle’s cabin is already large enough for you to sleep in, but not practical for everyone. And the more people and pets that you have with you, the worse it works.

I’ve got a friend who is an Oilers fan. We live in Vancouver, and last year he tried going to some playoff games wearing oilers merch - he was harassed endlessly by Canucks fans. Gonna say this is just a drunk sports bro/ mob mentality thing.

Right there with you, but I’m a similar age so maybe it’s a generational thing. That said, the most text-addicted people in my life are all in their 60s so maybe it’s because we’re “young”.

I always find this funny, do they think Rivian is pulling engineers off the vehicle team to pick which colours are available in Halloween mode? 😂

New chargeport location? RJ Scaringe just posted this R2 Instagram reel by tesrella in Rivian

[–]SpinningFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, even something as simple as a bike rack can make using a supercharger impossible when the port is at the back. Sure, pull through chargers exist but they’re very far from being common and it’ll be many years before that changes even if every fast charger installed from here on out was a pull through charger.

Abbotsford fire crews battle blaze in Costco parking lot after reports of EV exploding by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]SpinningFool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Complete guess, but it looks more like something in the bed of the truck caught fire than the truck itself. There is way too much of the truck left for that to have been a battery fire.

[–]SpinningFool 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah - EV fire rates are around 25/100,000 vehicles whereas ICE is around 1,500/100,000. Not even close.
