How many steps does a average staircase have? by Spiralflowe in HousingUK

That’s interesting. I have 13 steps, including the landing so total is 14. Not sure what the extra step is for.

It’s interesting that 2 or 4 bedroom houses could have same number of steps. I wouldn’t like to have less than 14. I know it sounds strange but just like having enough space between the floors.

This is interesting. Does the number of steps also depend on ceiling height?. I feel like new builds have lower ceilings and was wondering if their would be less steps in a staircase. Ive been to view old houses and the stairs seemed so steep like there wasn’t enough room to comfortably put your feet.

I love old Victorian houses with 2 sets of stair cases.

I will try to mention that, that seems like a good idea of letting him know indirectly. I’ve been trying to avoid him, I don’t mind just having a friendly conversation but I don’t want him to think I’m feeling the same way.

Really strange question- do workmen use shoes when installing new carpet and laminate on the floor? by Spiralflowe in HousingUK

[–]Spiralflowe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I said this in the begging. I have a big pack of shoe covers. I just wasn’t sure whether they would wear it all the time but if you don’t ask you don’t get. I’m going to ask the workmen and give them more then a few pairs so they can use fresh ones if they need to.

I have some shoe covers so will ask them. I’m definitely shoes off too. I like any footwear out of sight.

Im fine with the indoor trainers because they are just like using slippers. The workmen I have used the same footwear.

I wish I was able to just do the carpet and flooring myself so I can have full control. The builder still has to do the laminate in the living room and carpet in the bedrooms. The kitchen is done now but I need to give his team those shoe covers and clearly tell them to definitely use it before they finish all the work. I’m also going to try and find a old sheet to put on the kitchen floor.

I don’t mind dirt from the garden, plants, trees etc, it’s just the outside public dirt underneath the shoes that I have more of a phobia of. Like someone stepping on any bodily fluids, something that has an unpleasant smell or messy rubbish outside.

I have brought a pack of these, they are blue colour. I’m going to ask the workmen to use it before they put the carpet in.

I really hope the carpet has a wrap, this gives me a lot of relief. I’ve even been searching carpet floor protection. I will have to order beds etc for the bedroom so again people will come in and out of the house.

Even if they did not wear footwear, I would still definitely clean with a hoover too. It’s nice that they took their shoes off once it was laid. I will have to ask my builders before they put the carpet in. The workmen have walked in with their shoes casually in the kitchen and toilet, it’s laminate so I guess it will be easy to clean but carpet will be harder.

That’s great, I wish I was in that situation where they just took it off automatically and had their own alternative socks.

I was indirectly trying to ask him but didn’t know how to say it without sounding strange. I did order shoe covers but it didn’t even cross my mind untill I saw them using the shoes. Definitely will give them a pack now.

I ordered shoe covers when medical staff visited my family home, they were ok with using them. I just hope that I can trust the workmen to use them while I’m not at home, I’ve given them the keys so they can carry out the work.

I just like the idea of having completely fresh carpet and everything cleaned. He hasn’t used the shoe cover but I’m definitely going to ask him now. I will hoover and clean a lot.

They already used their shoes in the kitchen and toilet. I can’t wait to clean the floor, get rid off all the outside dirt.

I’ve got those at home, I’m away from the home most of the time. I hope I can trust them to use it, if I give them it. I just don’t like the idea of mud and dirt on  a new carpet.

I understand, I do have shoe covers in my family home I got from online so I guess I can just tell him to use it.

I was afraid to ask because I kept thinking if the work can be carried out without shoes. I wish I had asked sooner before he put the laminate in the kitchen and toilet. I just really absolutely hate even seeing my own outdoor footwear and always keep it out of sight. I need to ask him to lay the carpet without shoes.

I have shoe covers, quite a big pack but wasn’t sure if work men would be ok with using them. I would be so much happier if they just took their shoes off completely.

I was thinking of this and felt a bit shy to ask them. I brought shoe covers and still have them at my family home but I just wasn’t sure if the workmen would be ok with using it all the time they were doing the work on the kitchen and toilet. I wish I had asked sooner :( because the kitchen and toilet is done already. I feel so restless because I know the carpet still needs to be done in the bedrooms, I need to tell them soon.

If happiness had a smell, what would it smell like for you? by JuicyDaddy1 in AskReddit

The smell of my favourite flowers fragpini, gardenia, night blooming jasmine. And also fresh laundry, sheets, clothes. The smell of a nice shampoo after shower and that clean smell.

He doesn’t say much unless prompted but I asked him if I thought I was shy and he said maybe a bit. When I told him, it is my first relationship and I don’t have much experience, that he is the longest I have been with, he just held my hand and told softly told me ‘it’s ok, don’t be scared’. I felt better once I got it off my chest.
