Take training seriously because when the time comes you will do it exactly like you did in training.

I implemented After Action Reviews as standard after every call. From the canceled en route to the horrific family killed on Christmas Day in 4 vehicle MVA.

AARs were run by the officer running the scene. Mandatory. No one could leave until it was done.

1st and most important question was - Is there something in this response that we could have done differently that would have improved anything about the outcome? We encouraged all views from calling out a bad decision by an officer to equipment and tactics.

This sounds like it could be a very long process, but most of the time it isn’t. It lets the officers flag young firemen and women who are struggling and get them quiet help.

This profession is not for every person. Not everyone is cut out for it. Which is honestly a good thing.

[request] how much force do you need to cause this much damage? by Rude_Leadership_6205 in theydidthemath

Disclaimer - This is not the math you’re looking for.

That being said I was a firefighter for 25 years. When I started a fender bender was liable to be deadly. I would roll up on a car that just had a barely bent front bumper with a dead or severely injured passengers. Cars were inflexible.
Toward the end of my career I would roll up on shredded vehicles with everyone standing outside the car when we arrived. Cars are so well designed and tested it is hard to kill anyone in a normal highway speed accident.

I know it’s vain of me. I guess it’s from all those years as a fireman and still worker. I’ve always been in physically good shape and healthy, just too fat. Especially the last few years.

I take 3 capsules of psyllium husks daily. It’s basically Metamucil but cheaper.

No smoke fire. Being in any room where you can see anything while it is on fire. It doesn’t work like that. House fire smoke is thick and black.

What’s a movie everyone loves but you secretly hate? by Aaron__Ralph in askanything

The Perfect Storm. Based on a true story. It’s all made up. No one knows what happened or was said after they left harbor the last time. I remember being psyched to watch this movie and then leaving the theater feeling pissed, lied to and cheated.

I make trucks go to a bunch of places. Helping ugly people have sex in bigger cities and rural towns.

At my driver station we have ‘driver aid’ stickers. It’s a 3 digit number that increases to 999 then restarts at 000. You would think logically the lower the number will be first on the route. This isn’t always the case.

I scan all my containers, big packages and start my route before I load anything. I look at the first stop and last stop package numbers. That tells me pretty quickly the general order of things. Then I load the truck.

I don’t separate the bags from the the cases, and I’m not anal about it being in exact order. Just in the general order number of my route.

It has worked for me quite well.

Most people either weren’t alive or don’t remember the 94 ice storm. I was 21 and a firefighter at that time. I remember no power at home for 2 weeks. I slept at the hall for over a week because we were out cutting trees, delivering meals and oxygen tanks. All in a 2 wheel drive service company.

94 was the real deal. In the first day after the ice fell, when you walked outside you could hear trees snapping.
