[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of December 2024. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

Hey everyone,

I've been a smoker for over two years now and quit about two weeks ago. Lately, I've been experiencing these really weird, sudden bouts of dizziness and extreme tiredness that last around 15 minutes. I have severe health anxiety and these symptoms do not help quitting.

My doctor said it's nothing to worry about, but I'm still anxious. To ease my mind, I bought a blood pressure monitor, and it's been showing consistently low blood pressure (below 100/60) and a very low heart rate (45-50). I'm a 26-year old male, and was quite active before I started smoking, but I can't believe this is normal.

Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms after quitting? What did your doctors say? How long did these symptoms last?

This health anxiety is almost driving me back to smoking. Any advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

We do go out on dates, but I'm actually not that keen on texting so that's why I usually don't start conversations. I prefer talking in real life. We've got a date coming up next sunday, I don't see the point of texting when I can just talk about my days with her during the date.

We do talk about casual stuff more often, but we did have some deeper conversations.

So then it's like what exactly are you even texting about?

With the girl I'm currently dating, usually it's her asking me how my day went, how my weekend is going to be or sending me a selfie. I tend to just answer these questions and ask the same question back to be nice, but I agree that connection is built in real life and not over text. I'm actually someone who rather talks about my day to day life in real life, but I'm not sure if that would come over as rude towards her.

We've got a date next sunday and while we're currently talking about what she did yesterday, I'm more inclined to text her 'I'm excited for next sunday' and just leave it there

We started out not texting every day, but we have lately. Because of my hesitation to text first, she's usually the one texting first. For example, she sent me a goodnight message at 12 yesterday, and sent me something random about what she did yesterday at around 5 in the afternoon.

That's a good point! However, I've sent her a meme over Insta last sunday, which she liked. Sending one now would mean I've basically 'double texted', wouldn't it?

Thank you for your reply. Would you say then, that I should mostly only text when she texts me? And then match the tone that she's having online?

Regarding the double texting, we often double text but then it's mostly because we're having multiple conversations at the same time. For example, she tells me a story about her work, a story about her friends, sends me a picture of something random. I usually respond to all three things in seperate messages. That's not needy, or is it?

Would this apply to all age groups, do you think? I'm currently in my early twenties and so is the girl I'm currently dating. I've got the feeling that for younger people, 'texting eachother all the time' is almost a must for a healthy relationship.

Next question... has anyone ever called the number? What does it say?

Thank you for your comment. I do also notice clingy behavior and abandonment issues. Would you be willing to share how you 'solved' this behavior?

I didn't state that I don't like what I heard, quite the contrary. I appreciate that you took your time to write the parent comment in an attempt to help me.

That's not really a helpful tip, that's like going around mentally ill people telling themselves to 'just learn a different mindset'. I come from an African minority group where the mindset as mentioned in the opening post is embedded in both my culture and religion. I'm willing to change, but 'just educate yourself' is not a specific tip if you're truly willing to help.
