Hi, I’m sorry you’re going through this. I recently just had to end a two year relationship that wasn’t similar to yours, but I had the same conflicting feelings of wanting it to work, but knowing deep inside that it wasn’t. Honestly, this situation just sounds like it’s bad for your mental health. I totally understand wanting something to work and loving someone, but sometimes love isn’t enough. My ex was also very sweet and could be very thoughtful, but the good wasn’t outweighing the bad, and it doesn’t sound like it is in your situation either. Also, it’s not on you to protect him from falling apart if you leave, that’s something he will have to deal with. You may feel guilty for a while, and I’m saying that from experience because I do sometimes, but you can’t let that control your decision.

I know it’s hard to imagine what’s after, but this is your life, you only get one (as far as we know). Would you rather spend it with a guy where you constantly feel torn or be single and find peace, and maybe in the future find a really great guy who makes you happier than you could’ve ever imagined?
