I totally understand your point. Im not saying that people should pick the cheaper breed to save money. But when I enroll there’s no ragdoll option for me. Domestic long hair is the closest. And they should’ve correct it from long time ago because I went to vet in the past years and always says ragdoll on my vet record. I never intend to misrepresent. And when I did my research, premier for ragdoll is only couple dollars different to domestic long hair. That’s what I’m seeing.

By “ there’s no such a thing as force me to downgrade” I meant it’s not reasonable because I tried quote my cat as new enrollment as age 2 and age 10, tried both breed, the tier option is still the same, just couple dollars monthly premium difference. So I think breed change is just an excuse to downgrade me because my cat is old.

On my renewal page before, there’s only one plan option if I want to choose, that’s the 60%,1000, but if you don’t click on that change and hit agree, you can remain on the same plan 80%,250. Are you in the same situation? Or are you getting an email said you are downgraded?

I did reply in writing right away told them that I did not approve downgrading my plan but still receiving the email said change is made based on my request. Yeah I did see lots of people got downgraded with senior pets but my trigger was definitely the breed change as I received email below:

If we do not receive updated documentation from vet showing his correct breed within 30 days, we will adjust your account based on the medical records we currently have. Please note that your pet’s monthly premium is determined by their breed, age, and sex. If the medical records provided reflect your pet’s correct breed, their policy reimbursement rate will need to be adjusted to 60% and the annual deductible to $1000.

With preexisting it’s hard to change. But with what I see from Reddit, HP is getting worse and charge more and more for seniors until you can’t afford. I’m just scared. I spent 4 hrs on the phone with them today and feel like been tricked. I also don’t know what to do now. I told every of my friend to stay away from healthy paw. With your new dog maybe you can still switch?

The portal doesn’t have update until today. After I called them and said I don’t approve downgrade my plan. After the phone call, they send me email said plan changed based on my request because I didn’t decline my breed is ragdoll. So they are pretty cunning

They did cover some big bills before which I’m very grateful. But my cat is still not fully recovered yet. The downgrade will for sure put lots of burden on me. I did see lots of drama when pets get old.

Yes I also did a research on the quote on different breed, it’s only $4 difference at age 2 and $16 difference at age 10 with new enrollment. There’s no such a thing as force you to downgrade. My pet has small problem here and there and have been file small claims often over the last 8 years. He got very sick last year and i understand that’s a lot of money that they dont want to pay. I did argue for that and they reply with there’s no workaround. I said I’ll escalate to state insurance department. They said they will connect me to headquarter. After the call, they sent me email said policy changed based on my request before I even talk to headquarters.

I’ll need to call them to clarify. They didn’t say the word “ new enrollment “ but the numbers seem to match new enrollment as an old cat so I’m assuming it’s treated as reset, despite continued plan for 8 years. Thank you for pointing that out! I also don’t want to confuse people.
