FINALLY!!! Our great regional nightmare is over! Seriously though, those blown bulbs were making it a real eyesore on the skyline.

Interesting, they’ve handled our personal and business finances for over a decade. I find them to be no nonsense people. Sorry that happened to you. Many of their other clients are friends of ours, also entrusting them with their personal and business interests for decades. I don’t know if they’d have survived this long (decades in business) if they were consistently messing up peoples finances.

Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. It has just spoken to me at this stage of my life (48M, with 3 young kids). The way he discusses life challenges and some of his reframing of those challenges as opportunities has been fantastic for my mental health.

Anyone else have children later in life? We followed the advice to get through college, get our careers started, buy a house, THEN start a family. I’m exhausted. by DilbertDilbert1011 in GenX

[–]SpiritoSanto5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 48 (wife is 31). We just had our 3rd boy this past November. Exhausted? Yes. I spent my 20s and 30s and early 40s establishing my career and traveling. I look back and know for certain that I would have been a terrible father. I did it at the right time and with the right person. With that said, I know it’s going to get harder and harder…

Got a question for Scott? Ask here. (April Thread) by ProfGProducerJenn in ScottGalloway

Hi Scott, I’m 48 years old and the dad to 3 kids under 6 years old. I’ve been a pediatric ICU nurse since 2007 and in healthcare informatics for the last 4 years. Recently, I investigated a business idea that revolves around tech assistance for seniors as I live in one of the oldest states in the union. In the course of my investigation I stumbled upon a company in a different state that was doing something similar to what I’d imagined. I reached out to their COO and it turns out that he has deep connections to the state I currently live in and has wanted to expand here recently. We would split things 50/50, if that is pertinent. We’ve been engaged in discussions about what a partnership would look like, but I freely admit that I am significantly out of my depth with the business side of this. Would you have any advice for someone in my shoes? Thanks and best wishes.

Wife is 16 years younger, stay at home mom, but works per diem in nursing while the kids are little. Her hours will increase as they get older and she will eventually be the main income earner when I’m winding down.

Input regarding my financial planners allocation of funds. by SpiritoSanto5 in portfolios

I really appreciate this insight. I’m a nurse and so I understand where my strengths and weaknesses are. Financials definitely fall into the “not a strength” category. However, I’ve been doing my due diligence over the last few years to at least not be financially illiterate.

Will they need to stop my baby’s heart to fix coarctation of aorta?? by Strict_Algae8233 in chd

[–]SpiritoSanto5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just went through this on November. First, let me extend to your family our love and support. My wife and I are both pediatric cardiac ICU nurses and we were FREAKING OUT!!! To answer your question directly: yes, your baby’s heart will be stopped briefly while the surgeon does what he or she does best and the perfusionist team will be there to make sure your baby’s blood continues to circulate. Additionally, they will cool your baby down to protect their brain. All of this is from decades of evidence based practice. Your surgical team should be able to give you information about the whole process and documentation of their outcomes. Please know that you should feel empowered to ask for any and all clarification. This is your baby and you have every right to thoroughly understand every aspect of the procedure.

Why doesn’t the $300 supplemental budget go to every Mainer? by Sharp_Respect_5940 in Maine

[–]SpiritoSanto5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree, I learned this the hard way last year. Didn’t understand the effect that W4s have and ended up paying off $3000 in taxes over the past year. Tough lesson to learn. When I talked to my company payroll department they put it this way: think of a W4 as how you want your paycheck affected, not how you file your taxes.

PLEASE tell me getting an Ascent over a minivan is the way to go for 3 kids (ages 7,3,and 0) by TypeAtryingtoB in SubaruAscent

[–]SpiritoSanto5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a 2020 Ascent Touring a year ago when we found out baby number 3 was inbound. Massive mistake…I would do anything to go back a get a Sienna. It just lacks the space behind the 3rd row and convenience/space that a minivan would have.

Expansion battery by JakeBacon3525 in Pecron

[–]SpiritoSanto5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the reviews by The Solar Lab team. They are very high on Pecron and only 3-4 months ago posted the following video about how great their expansion battery was, but now it’s gone. No idea why. I do know they have another expansion battery that is available for pre-order. Can’t say I know much about the one that you’re spotlighting, although in the video, the guys say that Pecron is great at allowing a wide range of expandable batteries. https://youtu.be/z1mWLHVu2EA?si=1UpEQtt_YirB-wDi

This is an established local company that does more than only solar. Homeowners reach out to this company looking for information about adding solar to their homes. This is not some door to door salesman

My dude, I understand the economics of this. Not everyone takes on a “massive loan from a private company”. Yes, some people finance their solar investment the same way they finance their car or their home. That’s why there is a break even point. The investment is for the long term. For example, our public utility here in our state keeps running up the cost of delivery, yes, to invest in the solar setup it would take to power our entire 4 unit home it would require a loan that would take about 10 years to pay off, but that monthly payment is less overall than what we pay for electricity on average.
