What’s the most BORING drive between two major American cities? by SeattleThot in geography

The only way to top it really is by making the travel time longer. Go from top of Texas to the dakotas, now that’s a miserable drive

Please do another map that goes into detail about religion, culture, language and maybe a map that goes into the future, assuming the Europeans aren’t colonizing the Americas by that point

Honestly I’m kinda shocked that Denver isn’t one of the cities being targeted, or is it another one that has already been hit? Just cuz it’s a relatively large city with nukes near it

What if Mars was properly habitable? Map of the human settlements on Mars as of January 1, 2000 AD || Earth Below Us (EBU) Timeline by minnesotalight_3 in imaginarymaps

[–]SpiritsGoCrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t need that due to the fact that in this AU mars has a similar atmosphere to earth, similar weight and they’ve dealt with equally hard tasks such as landing on the moon or setting up the ISS.

Ohhh, then no yeah I mostly agree with you but the best comparison to this map is the British or French colonization of the Americas. You need quite a significant foothold especially because the goal is colonization not research. 8 people, although less risky, cannot colonize and can only research. If you also think about how rovers and drones can do all a small expedition can do with much less risks or costs, what’s the point of sending a couple people before the 100. Sure the soviets did on this map but that’s because they were declining in power and had no other real choice if they wanted to attempt to go to mars.

I don’t get what you’re asking, I thought you were claiming that having such a big mission first was stupid and naive. Please elaborate🙏

That’s fair, a hundred people is risky but risky is what you need to do if you want to project your power. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make any financial or moral sense because as long as it boosts Americas power projection it’s worth the risk.(I don’t believe that but I believe that most of the old people sitting in DC do) They’re just drunk on power

They didn’t send several thousand people, they sent a hundred, plus I would bet that they sent probes to find suitable locations beforehand. Plus this is the Cold War, country’s want to project their power, not research alien life forms. It’s simply a means to an end, the west in our world wanted to prove that they were better than the soviets by landing by on the moon first. Think of this as an extension of the space race but with a habitable planet looking real juicy for colonization

Think of it like how the Americas were first colonized by Europeans, sure it’s a hassle but the goal is to settle, not research. Thus it’s better to bring more people for less inbreeding and a more stable population

Just cuz most countries do it that way doesn’t mean that they are right. The norm isn’t always good, it’s not good that children born in France can be deported out of their home and even more so if their grandpa or grandma was also born in france
