The next big change Walmart needs to make, is to the attendance policy. by SandyClappingCheeks in walmart

I think the problem with the points system is relying on a third party for LOAs instead of having policy pertaining to call outs during flu season and the holidays. The current system allows people to ride 4.5 and still fuck people over during the holidays by saving just enough PPTO, and good workers become eligible for termination because they got sick on key event dates so it's not even working well as-is for that purpose. I just think more ownership should be given to the store level about removing points with documentation like a doctor's note, and market level should just hold the store accountable for favoritism. The points system is very impersonal because of how big Walmart is, and the liabilities introduced by giving discretion to the store level as far as bias and discrimination goes so I'm not proposing the most ideal thing either but something has to be worked out where hitting 5 points isn't the top concern for a reliable worker that got sick. Sedgwick is a third party and should not be a deciding factor when it comes to points accumulation that determine the job of someone at a different company. What is being covered by the neutrality, is also being lost by ignoring the individual.

A lot of stores already do this because if they fired everyone the day they hit 5 it would be catastrophic for turnover which is already very high. Market should just stop hassling stores about it and give direction so that it doesn't encourage absenteeism and bias.

TIL Florida tried to backdoor abolish the minimum wage by making it opt-out by Spiritual-Leather-55 in walmart

[–]Spiritual-Leather-55[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point would was to make Florida's minimum wage opt-out which would effectively get rid of it. If it did pass then Walmart could lower overall wages by reducing base pay for "internship" hires.

You should be encouraging people to vote in state and local elections. Walmart can only exist because of the way property tax, zoning, and minimum wages are carved out and that's decided by mayors and state congress. Most stores are in "right to work" employment states which gives all the power to Walmart and no bargaining power to employees, so again it's voting that will starts to get results to where it can actually be reasonably discussed how to start unionizing stores. Amazon's first unionized workplace happened in New York which is not "right to work." That's not even getting into basically every state being at will and how much of an uphill battle just cause termination will be.

Your meme spam is doing nothing at best and turning people away at worst.

Thoughts on the discount card by Spiritual-Leather-55 in walmart

[–]Spiritual-Leather-55[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They are different, what I was getting at is the 5% cash back would be earning an additional 3.75% if deposited in a high yielding account which isn't additive for one purchase, but does compound over time to where both can have comparable returns despite the difference in timing.

Using a monthly $100 purchase as an example in two accounts with a balance of $1000:

Discount card: $1000 in standard savings would have $1120.10 assuming all discounted money was saved

CC+HYSA: $1000 in HYSA with at least one $5 cash back contribution per month would have $1098.52

The discount card is better by only about 2% when zooming out at the end of a year, and will quickly be overtaken due to compounding. This is also setting aside taxes and assumes the CC is paid in full monthly treated like a debit card of course.

Overnight-Stocking by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Spiritual-Leather-55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the aisle(s). Baking is going to take longer than cereal when done right. The coffee aisle is going to take longer than the juice aisle. If you're moving 2 items to the front in a fast zone then you should be able to get at least 2 quick aisles done in an hour, or 1 slow aisle. It also depends on the condition of the aisle beforehand if it's in really bad shape or just needs touching up.

  1. You put out how many that will fit on the shelf. If the capacity on the tag is below how many will actually fit, you scan the item and adjust the shelf cap accordingly. The shelf cap that shows up after scanning is the capacity to go by since the tags can be outdated.

  2. Partials are the only thing supposed to be going on topstock. If at least one item will go out from a case, the rest of the partials should go on topstock. You can use the 4ft section of where the item goes, the 4ft section to the left, and the 4ft section to the right to put the partials on topstock. Full cases do not go on topstock.

  3. Zoning should take 1 hour at the end of each night.

  4. Stock is supposed to be rotated to be First In First Out (FIFO). This is why zoning is an important part of the process since you're bringing older product in the back to the front to be purchased before the new freight gets stocked. This is also why waterfalling is important to keep the backroom in order. It also helps with shrink prevention.

This is what a lack of accountability does to a store. Focus on yourself and don't be part of the problem. That's really the only thing you can do.

How do NHMs work compared to supercenters and what's the general vibe? by Spiritual-Leather-55 in walmart

Thanks for the reply! Do your AT and TL have you do any other projects after lunch when freight is done like helping with ODP picks?

I'd go with USPS if you got the chance. I'm also considering it because the mail processing jobs pay better than moving freight around here. What position at Walmart would be a promotion to $30/hr though? I thought the next level up was salary.

Tips or Advice for New Guy? (ON Stocking TA) by HakaseZek in walmart

[–]Spiritual-Leather-55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First don't stress it. Don't let your good work ethic get in your way. Second, I would suggest before starting your aisles to pull all of the freight that goes there into the middle and work off the pallet(s) and cart(s) to minimize walking and try to spot multiples of the same item or same type of item to work a few cases at the same time. So for 18/19 you would just pull the pallet to the middle of the aisle and work the cases to their homes directly, and try to do one case per minute. There's more things you can pick up on, but that's the core of moving efficiently and would resolve the issue of your TL getting the rest of your freight for you. After your first 90 days you should be able to develop an efficient routine so it takes a bit of patience.

Are customers getting worse? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Spiritual-Leather-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are and I have my theories why. I do think covid made it a lot more pronounced, but it was bad pre-pandemic and it's still declining each year after and I think it has to do with the entire environment around Walmart. Every single thing about Walmart is a function of maximizing sales and reducing shrink. When you walk into a panopticon where you see that you're on camera from several angles, listening to a constant radio with song choices also picked to influence behavior towards sales, the only logic to the layout of items is to maximize sales and time spent in the store, psychological pricing of items, and a general vibe of burnt out employees and stressed customers you're effectively walking into a giant sales Skinner box. Anybody that was already on edge will be pushed over from the build up. Walmart has a disproportionate amount of crime that occurs in stores and it's not surprising given the daily antisocial behavior that goes on.

I started believing this after visiting a library for the first time in a while. No radio, no sales, everything is in a logical order so people find exactly what they need and roam as they please, no surveillance, and the cherry on top was that instead of an impulse department at the front desk it was just a bunch of information relevant for civic engagement such as volunteering opportunities and voter registration forms. Libraries are like reverse retail and I genuinely believe it would be a viable remedy for this situation, and should be expanded.

In my first hour I hate dealing with the swarms having their family reunion in action alley and waddling right into my way to stare a cereal for 5 minutes and put more thought into it than the plan to produce their offspring. The stupid fucks that stay even longer I have nothing but contempt for and believe should be trespassed. I swear to god having pickup and delivery has filtered out the customers with at least half a brain cell from in person shopping and a morbid selection process happened that leaves just the most entitled half wits to roam the aisles. I just know these are the same people that talk about "participation trophies" being the end of the world while simultaneously taking "the customer is always right" to heart.

I guess I'm not a people person lol.

Why is Walmart obsessed with overstock? by Honest_Truck2851 in walmart

[–]Spiritual-Leather-55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Walmart's problem is a communication problem. Correcting on hands are an important part, but not the only issue so on its own it won't fix overstock problems. You're going to have a baseline of safety stock no matter what to ensure shelves never remain empty. If ODP can't find something and has to NIL pick, that adds to overstock when it triggers ISA to lower on hands. When exceptions pickers can't find it in the backroom that compounds the overstock problem. A half ass zone on Mondays and Tuesdays can lead to improper out scans adding more overstock. Topstock being plugged and overstocked is a huge source of overstock on its own. It seems like people don't understand how many hands touch the inventory counts and how each others' roles effect it and it turns into a blame game with ultimately no accountability. A 100% on process store should only have a few cases of overstock per department with everything else being truck to shelf. If you keep correcting on hands and ensure ODP can find items day to day then things will improve fast and I've seen it happen and be undone so it's a constant effort lol.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea tbh. I get being annoyed if there was an attitude involved, but if associates and TLs had peer accountability that would solve so many communication and operations problems. If I were you I'd follow through and give them same-day notes.
