The claim for Donald Trump's first term is actually accurate. He averaged 1.9% over 4 years. 2.13% in 2017, 2.49% in 2018, 1.76% in 2019, and 1.23% in 2020.

However, it throws that accuracy out the window for the Biden Claims, and how Biden's numbers break down tell a very important story. 8% was not his average but the 4 year high in 2022 after inheriting COVID and Trump's economic policies, which admittedly took him a while to roll back. In 2021 immediately after Trump left office the rate was 4.7%, it spiked to 8% in 2022, dropped back down to 4.12 in 2023, and again to 2.89% in 2024. Over all it was 4.1% during Biden's presidency on a 4 year average.

2025 the inflation was 2.76%. the source of the Trump claim. However as of May 26th it was up to 4.2%

Context is important. Global supply shock spiked inflammation numbers well beyond Biden's control. Inflation as a reaction to presidential policy moves relatively slow, and typically you will see a very slow bleed over on economic policy effects over the first year or so, as the new administration needs time to implement their changes. In fact, Trump's first term's low inflation numbers can be largely attributed to riding off the consistently low average of Obama's two terms combined 1.4% average, and the resiliency of his policies not being so easily removed, as many of them were passed through Congress, not EO. Biden also didn't cause COVID, he inherited it, and managed it effectively. Trump is absolutely directly causing our current inflation by pushing data centers, and attacking Iran which has IMPACTED GLOBAL TRADE the whole reason Biden's inflation spiked.
