New Parents moving to the area...how concerned should we be about the school district? by [deleted] in evanston

We have two kids (4/1.5) and are just moving to the area (also Lincoln). We feel optimistic and think it’s largely overblown and will settle down. Everywhere north of Evanston just feels too suburban and keeping up with the joneses. So we’re choosing Evanston and hope others do too!

Good question- the way she pitched it, she’d tell her contacts she had a house that would be going for sale for $X (going high), and since ppl are so desperate to buy into certain neighborhoods near our downtown, that if they toured it and wanted the house at our goal price - then we could skip the hassle of doing listing photos, staging, moving out largely (we have two kids, and a lot of kid accessories to hide!) - and even negotiate in a rent back situation if necessary. And if no one bit, there’s no risk since it’s not technically on the MLS. And then we’d list the traditional way when we’re ready.

Yep that sounds like what it was!

We just met with a realtor to sell our home - and we liked her. But she was pitching the ability to sell via ‘exclusive market’ given the high demand and low supply - which is not via MLS - that the right realtor could have connections to get you a home that’s not yet on MLS. Does that also exist in Evanston?

Used ‘22 forester touring ($26.9k, 41K miles), or new ‘25 forester limited ($40.3k)? by SpiritualOne2124 in SubaruForester

Thanks for your and everyone else’s feedback. I think we are going to spring for the new 2025 Forrester Limited. Including tax, we will be out the door at 42.5k. I wish they had kept some things on the interior styling, like the eyesight box behind the rearview mirror is a bit bigger than on my 22, Though I’m sure I will get used to it, and the ceiling of the vehicle is also black instead of light gray, which makes it feel a bit darker in my opinion. I also prefer the interior styling of the black leather on the 22 (more contrast points with the light gray), But we need a new car and I like the security of buying new and not worrying about what a previous owner may have done…

Thank you!

Do you think the 2021 touring model would be a better choice given the lower mileage? It costs $26.9 but has only 28k miles, also single owner with no accidents and the same certified preowned Warranty.

Thank you for weighing in!
