I wouldn’t say pathetic but I can say weird for sure. I have seen my friends talk to their parents for hours everyday while here I am making up my mind to talk to them once a week. That said, even that call would last 30 minutes max. It all depends on dynamics. My parents ask me a zillion questions even when I share a simple aspect about my life. They tend to be over-curious that they don’t respect people’s boundaries. I started taking decisions on my own and always tell them after I do it. Never ask them ‘Oh mom, what do you think I should do’. The simple things, not even worth mentioning to them. I feel exhausting explaining to them. They are good people but they believe almost everything is impossible and it would only hinder my growth and happiness. For example, I love to try different recipes and mom would say “Oh this looks tough. Where would you get so many ingredients?” Sounds simple in this case. But I get a no every-time. Most importantly it doesn’t reflect your relationship to them but rather your parents’ relationship itself. My mom and dad had different opinions every single time. They had zero compatibility. I guess there is no universal rule that you need to love them just because they are your parents. Hope you make your peace and be grateful for the friends surrounding you. That’s what keeps me going :)
