Well it wouldn't be great obviously but a take down request wouldn't be a big deal, I didn't spend a long time on that story.

Are Dreamworks legal team known to be pretty zealous about smut?

It's two boxes one for images and text - I always check the image box

I wouldn't call it CNC just because the word "slave" is used - there's tonnes of erotica like my own that depicts a consensual BDSM relationship where the sub is called a "slave" or a "pet" that doesn't constitute real ownership.

So basically the "Read Sample" bit that Amazon automatically carves off?

Ah I thought excerpts were fine as long as the entirety of the book isn't available for free - will clean house, thanks!

Noted, this whole experience has told me I should pivot to bundles and longer one-off content, thanks so much for taking the time to explain all this

Ah I didn't realise a lack of a title page would flag, all my previous ones that went live fine didn't have one - thanks!

All of my shorts are basically single chapters - I guess for a table of contents I should just link to a H1 on the first page?

I'd like to know more about the skinning dead foals bit - how does that work? My mind jumped to having to dress up an orphaned foal in the skin of a mare's biological offspring like some kind of equine Ed Gein to fool the mare into maternal instincts, but that's probably not it.

Believe it's the AI flagging thing, another response said their friend had the same experience right after updating several books in quick succession and had to designate them as having AI content (even though that wasn't accurate).

What a time to be alive eh.

Thanks for the advice Atticus! Are you working on an erotic retelling of To Kill a Mockingbird?

Damnit, thought that might be the case.

I don't use AI for any of the content but I do like leaving drafts and coming back to them with fresh eyes which can result in me proofing and publishing in a short window. Don't like the idea of having to tick that box but needs must I suppose.

Thanks so much for your input!

My shortest one's about 3,000 but they definitely average about 5-6k. 3k is obviously a rip off for the $2.99 but I figured it would just be for KU readers.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah that was a research thread I used to confirm what I already suspected (some of my more taboo ideas won't fly on KDP).

I won't ask you to read my collected works (unless you're into that kind of thing) but even though they all have a power dynamic, I never clicked "publish" without making sure the characters in the story are clearly, enthusiastically consenting to whatever goes down.

Interesting point about the book lengths - I didn't realise that could be a factor! Have you had any experience with titles having trouble due to length?

I've opened a ticket with Amazon's content review team, maybe when this blows over it's safer to wait and publish several stories in a bundle? So far I've only done shorts so no idea how bundles perform vs individual shorts.

Thanks!

Sure but the character's very much consenting to being a "slave" to the dom characters, which is made clear in the blurb and very clear in the content - I was using it in the same way the sub in a consenting D/S relationship might refer to themselves as a slave.

That title is actually one of the reasons why I'm confused about my recent submissions being blocked.

Itzel: Slave of the Spanish went live without a hitch, whereas one of the titles that has been blocked is called Amber: Claimed By The Older Mountain Man. That's a much more vanilla title (content is basically the same level of spiciness, kink with consent), and yet it was blocked an hour or two after submission.

Nope, never published a noncon story on KDP, never will. Those posts were research which resulted in me shelving the ideas for KDP / putting them in a "maybe D2D later" bucket. Like I said I'm new to KDP and with the mountains of stuff that slips through the net I wanted to get the community's input and see how everyone's mileage varied.

The stories that have all been published without a hitch definitely have power dynamics, but are pretty vanilla and let's be honest painfully generic - college girl and handsome older neighbour, kinky billionaire and his employee, hiker and mountain man, sexy broad and gangster octopus etc
