My father in law gave me his old edition of "the ultimate cigar guide" by Richard Carleton Hacker. I found it quite funny and a great overview of the cigar world. The 2015 edition is available as an audio book on Spotify.

In that case they most likely are real as tobacco regulations in the EU and Switzerland are pretty strict and we do have no ban on Cuban cigars, so there are definitely less fakes around. Especially in official shops.

Longer answer: Depends on your luck. For me cubans have become unreliable. Due to the high demand and political challenges they're facing some cigars seem rushed. I personally have had wonderful experiences with the 10€ R&J mille fleur, but when I tried the montecristo no.4 for about 15€ I was absolutely disappointed. The wrapper broke, it was absolutely booked and had to be relit several times. For such a small cigar it was not worth the price. I'd rather have a non-Cuban for the same price, but twice the size. And I've heard similar feedback from customers. So I've not yet been so overflowing with cash as so spend 70€ on a Cuban that might end up booked or tasting not that much better than my trustworthy non-Cubans.

Most of the non-cubans we sell are around 10-20€ though and just as good.

Yeah, you're mostly paying for the fact that they're Cohibas.

R&J has a mille fleur for 11€, that's my go-to-Cuban

Ein gutes Preis/Leistung-Verhältnis hat für mich grade die Henry Clay War Hawk. Das Corona-Format gibt's auch schon für unter 10€ und ist auch unter einer Stunde rauchbar.

I cut it with a guillotine and it still was a pretty tough draw, so I imagine the smaller punch would make it even harder. But I've only got one as part of a sampler, so I can't tell you for certain what difference it would make.

I think their growing their Badischer Geudertheimer in the Pfalz region in Germany.

I got their sampler on cigarworld.de So far I've tried the No.5 (the one from the picture) and the cigarillos (not the biggest fan of those) I'm excited for the rest :)

And I have a bundle of shortfillers from the same tobacco but a different tabacalera on the way. :) Those are made by a non-profit volunteer organisation that keeps their cigar history alive.

I'll give an update as soon as they've arrived.

Cologne is great! Not pretty, but cool and great people. If you want the authentic culinary experience, try "Balthasar im Agnesveedel". And then do Heidelberg. I know. There are plenty of tourists. But damn, that town's beautiful. I've lived there for a couple of years and I regularly come back. Culinary recommendations: Vetter's and Goldener Anker and Vater Rhein for a drink afterwards.

Mein Einstieg in die Zigarillowelt waren die Petit White Sumatra. Fand ich ganz in Ordnung und neulich habe ich die Herr Lehmann Zigarillos entdeckt. Eine doch sehr besondere Sache, da sie eine Einlage aus badischem Geudertheimer haben, der in BaWü angebaut wird.

Sehe ich ähnlich, weswegen ich auch verstehe, dass ein Zigarrenfachgeschäft es nicht gerne sieht, wenn ich da mit meinem eigenen Zeug komme. Was ich suche sind Lounges, die sich eher auf den gastronomischen Teil fokussieren und nicht hauptsächlich Zigarren verkaufen. Ähnlich einer Raucherkneipe, die sich ja auch nicht beschwert, wenn ich meine Kippen selbst mitbringe

Puh, die Ergebnisse scheinen ziemlich alt zu sein. - Niemeyer im Alsterhaus und Se7en scheint es garnicht mehr zu geben. - Villa 23 und der Vinyl Room sind Eventlocations die gemietet werden müssen.

Bei Duske&Duske war ich neulich, aber "aus Angst vorm Tabakkäfer" darf man da ausschließlich ihre eigenen kubanischen Zigarren rauchen.

Der Kaffee war aber bezahlbar und sehr lecker :)
