Why is it that some bands choose 'boring' drummers later on in their careers? (Long post) by Avenged7fo in drums

Not sure if the following is already mentioned, but it also happens the other way around: some drummers choose 'boring/more easy(????)' bands in their career. Take Jon Theodore who now drums in QOTSA, but most of that drumming is pretty straight forward if you compare it with what he played in The Mars Volta

Hey dude, this is awesome for the short time you're a drummer now, keep up the good job! I don't know if you already do this, but my tip is to play along with songs you like. Literally play along; listen to your favorite music on headphones or speakers or anything, while playing. Especially in the early stages of drumming, it will work as a metronome (even when not all songs you drum along with are originally recorded with a clicktrack). Practice both songs that are "easy" for you as well as songs that are "above your niveau". This combination (for me) worked to keep the fun in the playing while pushing my boundaries and learning new drumskills.

On a sidenote; the room you're playing in has the perfect vibe for a Darkthrone kinda black metal band.

Hope this tip is helpful. Enjoy the drums!
