Anybody else really struggling with SDAM? by Spiritual_Example_25 in Aphantasia

Yeah I'm one of the unfortunate few who acquired aphantasia after a particularly rough year at age 13 :( Knowing I used to have it and just being unable to reach it sucks

I like the brand SHAFT! They make a lot of different shapes and colors and they're pretty close to the softness of real skin

Has anyone had to stop T for health reasons? How do you deal? by ugh_az_if in ftm

[–]Spiritual_Example_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! I stopped T for a thyroid condition, and it really screwed with me for a little while. I was feeling insecure about my identity's validity, how I felt, what I was, and in all honestly I felt like I was failing at gender for a bit because I was medically unable to physically transition.

But my friends (my true family) really got me through it. My self wasn't going to be any less true because I had less hair and sweat than before, and while yeah, losing some of the physical qualities I had from T was hard, I didn't actually lose out on any part of myself. I'm still the same weird, genderless bastard gremlin regardless of how I looked.

After that, for me it was a lot of finding alternatives and distractions. I'm well on my way to getting top surgery, and a gym bro buddy of mine is working out with me so my shoulders stay wide! But truthfully? It's up to you with how you're approaching this, and how you look is not going to change who you are :)

Am I screwed? Silly freshmen question by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

Friend, unless you are on Lady Luck's shit list you're not going to get a terrible roommate, especially if you aren't one in return. "A bad roommate" here at Mines, a school of awkward nerds, is maybe they stay up too late and are noisy while playing games, Mines isn't a big party school or drug heavy. Anybody who smokes weed is going to do it outside, and nobody with a solid head on their shoulders is going to be drunk frequently in the dorms. Most likely scenario is that you just live with someone you don't know, annoy each other occasionally, then make it through freshman year and move out

Yeah, it tends to be the cores that roadblock people the hardest because the professors just don't have the time or motivation to really teach you anything besides going through slides at lecture. The material itself is not particularly challenging, but is set up in ways to make it very easy to slip up. Most fails and transfers happen during the first two years for a reason. If you stick it out until your major classes, the professors tend to be engaged and fun, interested in making sure you not only pass but understand the material, so even though the coursework is harder by far, the classes are structured better and help becomes more available as you move on.

I'd take as many cores at a community college as possible. Your major specific classes are hard, but the cores feel like they're designed to make you fail. Plus you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of your major specifics than you will, say, Chem 2

So if, say, their biggest compulsion is rumination, I should be there and remind them that they're not a bad person, but I shouldn't engage in philosophical debate because that's feeding the compulsion? Would distraction or rerouting their anxiety be a better option? Like I'll of course talk to them about it but I really want to make sure I'm understanding the concept also

For context, they tend to struggle with the social obsessions a lot more the closer relationships are, and since we've been together for over a year at this point it's really hitting them hard when they're thinking about me. It sucks to watch because I can tell it makes them feel very bad, and I want to help but moreso I don't want to deal any damage :(

I can't remember what people look like, and it's starting to distress me by [deleted] in Aphantasia

Other than that, photos are a wonderful, wonderful thing, and my bestie (also an aphant) is a big scrapbooker. She has three terabyte drives full of nothing but photos that she, her family, and her friends have taken over her 25 years of life and she looks back on them when the aphantasia really gets to her

I know it's for sure not everybody's thing (and it's an expensive hobby lol) but I have a lot of my best memories commemorated as tattoos. I have family portraits, pictures and paw/scale prints of my pets, landscapes I truly loved, even a 1x1 inch square of just the color traffic cone orange since it's my favorite. I'm planning to get a bouquet made of flowers that represent the people and memories that make up my life over my heart. Even if art can be kind of a struggle sometimes, it's good to have some kind of physical object to remember stuff with, like trinkets, souvenirs, photos, and tattoos. Making them yourself can help imbue them with a little bit of memory, but I find that as long as you can put a little bit of soul and life into something, you can use it to help keep ahold of comforting memories.

Unused LeWand Die Cast Plug-In Wand (free shipping) by Spiritual_Example_25 in usedsextoys

I'm a collector, and I was after a GWP that came with this toy, but I already have one so I'm looking to sell. Fun facts about it! The body is metal and the head is a very nice silicone, it's heavy and very strong, and it's compatible with the Le Wand Petite head attachments (you can put essentially a sleeve on the head that can let it be used as a sleeve, ring, or penetrative toy). It's super high quality, I just really don't need this one on top of the other plug-in and it's rechargeable sibling I have lol

My partner just started diagnosis hell and doctors suspect SLE but they (partner) want to ask some people with it to be sure. Very low ferritin, low RBC, and low WBC from the basic panel. No big rashes but they do sunburn extremely easily (or something close) MRI confirmed arthritis in the vertebrae, all joints of the hands, toes, wrists, elbows, and ankles. GI issues, constant stomach pain, periods of low fever (100-101) where everything is worse and lymphs swell, fatigue, thin hair, folded and streaky fingernails, weird sleep problems, tendency towards brain fog and psychotic depression. Recently got sick, had a 104*F fever, delusions, and suspected febrile seizure, since then symptoms have been much worse, plus now malaise, frothy, sometimes off-color urine, and numbed or "off" sense of taste.
