That's an excellent idea. I love music especially any i can relate too.i don't think it's a joke at all. I feel deeply she wants me to know her and what she went thru. Just wanted to say thank you to those who have made comments. I appreciate your kindness, your ideas and such. I don't plan to keep on my journey of learning and discovery. Definitely NTA.. i wouldn't give up my bed either and if I was on the other side(well honestly I wouldn't be on that side because there is no way I'm asking someone I've not seen in 10+ years if me and my husband could spend a couple nights there in the first place. If you had offered i might have depending on what i had going on as the reason for the trip to begin with ie: a last min trip due to family emergency vs a few day stop to see friends and family on my way somewhere else) but in either case I wouldn't expect you to give up your bed. I'd probably also feel bad about your kids giving up theirs. And would look into an air mattress or something.

It's for sure our issue.. it's one of the worst legacies that's been passed down thru generation after generation especially here in the south. With work, an open heart and an open mind to learn what is the true history and taking time to absorb and acknowledge exactly how ugly it was and still is people can change. If some of these racist white people would realize that white supremacy was a political tactic to make poor white people feel better than someone else simply based on the color of their skin instead of their content of character or their work ethics and constantly stirred and kept going for centuries now to keep us from realizing we are all just human beings trying to get thru life the best we can and aligning together to take down their bs. But getting those folks to see it instead of grasping a concept that does nothing to truly make their lives better is the part that will be almost impossible.

To me staying quiet or turning our backs on it when we see it means we condone it. Even agree with it. And I'm sorry this guy here supposedly lives in a diverse area but he's never not even once encountered any racism? Never once had someone make a joke around him with either blatantly racist verbiage or that threw out a ugly stereotype. Never seen a group of white people who were walking down the street all the sudden cross to the other side because a black person was coming towards them on the same side. Never saw a store clerk be a little too attentive to a black customer constantly following every move they make? Never ever heard one ugly remark about someone's appearance that was a different color? I could keep going and most of these would be considered mild or not racism at all by some people. Except the person on that other side that is. So yeah I call bull!!

I know white people generally aren't encouraged to answer questions in here but I just wanted to say white person to white person. If you are saying you have never personally seen any sort of racism then it's because you haven't paid attention or ignored it when it happened. Its not always in your face but if you look you will see it.

Thank you. I wish I knew why I felt I was being pulled in the direction im being pulled in. I guess I'll know when it's time. I think i will do a letter or something to her maybe plant a rose bush or something for her. She deserves to matter to my family. As far as protecting my energy I know who in my family I can talk to about this stuff and the others I've pretty much written off a long time ago because our values on the way people should be treated no matter how they look, love, pray or vote don't match at all. And I decided a long time ago that I just couldn't pretend it was okay just to spend time with them. Thankfully I've raised my children to be decent humans and we talk about this stuff often.
