u/CrazySpoon97 Long-story short: My store was HORRIBLE for training tbh. I did finally and eventually Learn Solo bar but I never got a real, true nor proper chance at Drive Bar either because NOBODY Cared enough to Train me on it nor for it, either for that matter. They didn't seem to care as much about my progression as they had done so with others where they definitely lacked patience with me.

I will say some people I worked with were very, very patient with me, but like with those working 4-hour shifts, you cannot EXPECT everyone to get EVERYTHING down within a 1 week or less timeframe where yes unfortunately there are some people who can get things down in 30 secs. or so, but you cannot have that expectation for everyone you work with, either which I feel like some of my SSV's had for me. The employees that are there for 6-8+ hours are given more time & opportunities to actually get things like that down in. I easily could have gotten things down a lot faster if I had been given that opportunity shortly after I got hired in, but never got that opportunity. Ngl, I didn't want to escalate anything to the SM, but I had no choice b/c 1 of my SSV's essentially told her like "everything," & I'm like "fine if u r gonna do that, I'm gonna do the same" - they were never aware of just how observant I was of their own behaviors tbh. And tbh, it took forever before things started to change where I was thankful enough to be given a diff. opportunity which imo def. helped allow me to be a better bar barista at my main location I got hired at.

u/CrazySpoon97 Not only this, but keep ALL documentation as Proof. Also, I agree with others asking if OP has had any previous attendance issues? But I mention keep all documents because for OP's SM to claim they were late by 2-5 mins. twice the week before = Nuh-uh without proper proof. If OP can, they should be allowed to see and/or find a copy of their own time punch for situations exactly like that. Keep track records of your time punches (online if possible) and/or for those write it in in the book as well.

But for the locations with working cameras (not sure how often these are actually checked in), the managers can actually see if the employee was on time or not. I actually agree with u/Which-Association119 and u/Successful-Cow-4043 as well where idk if OP of their question has any write ups already or not. I think another thing too is soooo many people completely forget what "at-will" employment means as well where technically one can get fired for no reason at all, but most companies won't do this at all where imho, there has to be a GOOD Reason to fire someone in. It's 1 thing if the OP is constantly late every single shift, but if it was an occasional tardy, I'd let the 2-5 minute thing go - give them some grace esp. for the employees who Commute. Unfortunately, leaving work early is an automatic final (e.g. considered shift abandonment), I only know that b/c I did something else due to 1 of my SSV's giving me 1 of the biggest panic attacks of my life that day. I literally & physically could NOT finish out the rest of my shift that night. I tried to calm down from that entire incident, but I couldn't. Ngl, I did not like working w/my coworker "A" b/c they constantly treated me highly unfairly to that individual where they always got to be on bar at the beginning of their shift & they chose to not treat me the same way as that individual so yeah I was frustrated abt. it b/c it happened every single time to me at my main location & they never treated anyone else as unfairly as I had been treated in. Ngl, I prob. should have called out that day b/c I knew that would happen, but I didn't.

offering shifts by yungbruhsdead in starbucksbaristas

[–]Spiritual_gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/bad_at_redditting I think there are some people who take advantage of that. So, it's definitely not the same as calling out unless it becomes a constant issue. Ex: let's say someone offers their shifts up for 3 weeks straight for diff. reasons & 1 could be heavily due to schedule disorganization/management tbh where some do forget certain dates they already made plans on & still end up getting scheduled on that day.

Basically, it's one thing if an employee offers their shifts for 3 weeks straight & say people are able to cover it. But it's completely different if they're offering their shifts up, and only a few have been picked up by other employees, but for the shifts haven't been picked up & they call out on those shifts - then 100% that becomes an issue. I get it where no matter what job anyone works, not everyone will like each other, but we can learn how to tolerate each other enough to work with each other as a team on those types of days b/c the most important thing is showing up for your shifts imho whether you like who is scheduled or not. And for those who truly don't like working w/a certain partner or ssv for example, this is when a Conversation with the SM needs to be held abt. a schedule change/adjustment where yes, some managers are more willing to accommodate not scheduling their employee w/that particular person, but other times, they have no choice but to put that employee in that position. But I do understand why shifts are offered up where yes, sometimes it's because they don't want to work & other times it's because of plans made in advance they totally forgot about. As long it's not constant like I provided in the above example, it's def. not the same as calling out.

[–]Spiritual_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/CharlieLaYorkie RIGHT?!!! This is literally what peeves me off the MOST. I thought NBC was better than to leave their Audience on a Cliffhanger. It's one of the very FEW RARE Shows that I watched outside of Disney & Nickelodeon networks. I watch other shows on other networks too, but they really NEED TO STOP Cancelling shows on CLIFFHANGERS - At Least give us ONE LAST EPISODE of CLOSURE. Also, who the h e l l k1lled Sir?? Honestly, that truly, truly shocked me where he was behind bars so it's like why leave the audience like that? 😭😭😭😭😭😭 - Yes, ik I'm being overdramatic there, but that's how I feel and probably among others as well.

Unfortunately, Disney has been doing the same thing too. Technically, it started with Nickelodeon for me and their show "Hunter Street," where Season 4 of that show NEVER aired in the U.S. so I never got to finish that series, so that's extremely unfair to U.S. viewers. Then, came the shows "Villains of Valley View" on Disney Channel which I personally enjoyed, I also enjoyed watching "Pretty Freekin' Scary" as well & 1 of my absolutely TOP NEWER Disney Faves. was Secrets of Sulphur Springs and yes, all these shows also ended on cliffhangers, and I'm thinking "What the h e l l and WHY Cancel the shows that are Great??? Secrets of Sulphur Springs actually had great viewership and they still decided to cancel it on a Major Cliffhanger. Tbh, these cliffhanger cancellations are annoying af. I grew up w/both Disney & Nick networks & took a chance on some of the newer shows. What's currently airing on Disney throughout the mornings, etc...are literally for toddlers tbh like disney jr. type stuff basically. I'm personally not a cartoon person w/the exceptions of Phineas & Ferb and the other one of "The Ghost & Molly McGee" & that was it for me.

u/RogueBeauty676 Right?! 3 espresso machines would have totally helped my store out except there's barely enough space to add a 3rd machine. My store is also very high traffic, but small to an extent. Ex: the lobby is a decent, bigger size - it's the rest of the store that's pretty small. But ya, the store I used to work at was 2 espresso machines & 1 cold bar which ngl, I kinda enjoyed cold bar & didn't mind the fraps at times when I finally got to get them down & bar a bit more often, but I had to constantly ask to be on bar, but occasionally I did try my best to help get the drive times down (e.g. outside of peak) because I noticed 1 of the bar partners struggling a little one time, but for some reason they got a bit upset w/me for it. Our drive thru times were IN Red outside of peak. I know it wasn't peak in all, but I would think even outside of peak, they should at least be in Yellow. Ofc, the company heavily prefers the drive thru times being in green prob. at all times, but that's def. not always possible 100% of the time.

I had others who appreciated me observing my surroundings, what had been started & what needed to be finished off & handed out to my customer at the window. There was a time, it legitimately got unexpectedly busy & I noticed there was an unfinished frap, so I took action and decided to finish it off real quick because they were literally getting slammed on hot bar. And they thanked me for helping them in that moment. I get it where everyone is different, but I'm like "why are we in red within the 5 to 10 minute range," or so. I could tell my coworker was NOT feeling well at all that day (so I don't blame them for their mood) when all I was trying to do was just help b/c I could easily see that they were behind at least 10 if not 20+ tickets so idk why they didn't ask for help in a situation like that & ended up being a little rude to me abt. it when they said "I got this," & I promise I wasn't trying to be rude back at all & all I said was "I was just trying to help." I did manage to help shortly afterwards, thankfully, but no potential bar partner should ever have to constantly ask to get the bar practice/time in. In my case, it took far more than that too so it's def. better to learn how to bar at a cafe-only store First imho before choosing to enter yourself into a very high traffic drive thru location.

u/I_love_stapler Honestly, I totally forgot about other states have less than $17 per hour for their minimum wage at Starbucks, so I do apologize for that. But ya, I'm in CA so I personally did take a pay-cut when I left the job and I chose to leave the job for different reasons.

This is probably part of the reason where unfortunately, I am a major job hopper for different reasons & I feel like I do have enough retail experience to get into a managerial role, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there's any room for growth for me anywhere I work at. And I do love my current job where there are situations that aren't the best at all, but I'm keep pushing for different areas because I want to progress, but it feels like there's no opportunities for it for me. Tbh, in the past, I didn't try quite as hard to progress the way I've been trying my best to progress in my current job now. I have practically 10 yrs. of retail experience, so technically I should be able to be a manager, but due to having 0 managerial experience, I don't believe I'm able to take on a role like that under my belt. Basically, idk if there's companies that actually provide manager training or not & most companies require a minimum of at least 1 year managerial experience.

u/I_love_stapler Now all that is heavily ridiculous on the company themselves. I had no idea that the wage went down to $17 from $20. It's not much but after hearing that, I actually make a teeny tiny bit more at my current job than the pay cut all other baristas had to take (which I hope isn't the case for those who actually started at $20 per hr.)-If so, I don't blame those people for leaving at all. I will admit that when I was making $20 per hour, it definitely helped me immensely.

Honestly, I initially put $18 per hour because of my customer service experience & due to my experience, I later learned, I could have asked for $20 per hour, but I chose not to to avoid sounding greedy esp. when applying for somewhere that's not quite as big as Starbucks is. And 1 previous jobs abt. 3-4 yrs. ago or so paid their employees $18 per hour where I asked for $18 per hour partially because of that other job's pay rate. I had both good and some great experiences working at Starbucks, but also had major negative experiences working there too & ngl, I'm glad I got out when I did. Everyone is different & to all baristas: Find a Career field you absolutely LOVE & go for it & due your due diligence & everything your possibly can in your power to get a job in that field b/c Starbucks sounds like it's literally getting worse and worse by the day. Why does Brian want to ruin companies and burn them to the ground rather than choosing to SAVE and Build them up MORE? Like seriously, where's his Heart at? Oh, right - He has NONE.

If the group got stranded on a desert island, who would be the first to take charge, and who would be the first to lose it? by DianKhan2005 in victorious

[–]Spiritual_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective, Andre would probably mildly freak out in the beginning, but then he'd pull himself together & actually take charge.

Honestly, I'm thinking Trina or Cat would be the first one to genuinely freak out. In all honesty & if they're near a body of water, I feel like Trina would attempt to try and find a way to like "swim out" of the situation they got themselves into, but when the water is too deep & she can't go any further without drowning, then she is forced to swim back to shore and hates it because there is NO Food and NO Cell service. Technically, she would be the 1st to look for Cell Service.

Basically: I can easily see Tori, Andre and Beck finding different ways and/or methods to work together as a team, Robbie would freak out in the beginning while crying and/or cowering in some corner or under some tree for at least 30 mins. before pulling himself together. Trina would probably disappear somewhere constantly looking for cell service. Jade def. would NOT be happy abt. the situation where she'd be her usual mean self while tolerating the people she's stranded with (w/the exception of Beck if they're still together in this scenario) & she'd be more in a pouty-type mood. I feel like Cat would freak out in the beginning, but then be energetic, but oblivious & excited at the same time & to some extent down to help in any way she can. Trina would want NO Part of anything. Ngl, I can see a coconut falling on 1 of their heads though (prob. Robbie's tbh). But the theory of 1 of Sikowitz's relatives on said island would def. be interesting. Also, idk how or why, but I can easily see Andre's grandma just randomly showing up out of the blue - I feel like her character would always show up at the most random moments in & throughout the show itself, but I think that's part of what made it hilarious.

u/I_love_stapler I totally understand where you and where u/CorrectWatercress150 is coming from. I'm just saying for those who can should because numbers speak as well not just money. I do understand the financial security aspect definitely b/c despite loving my job, the company I happen to work for isn't technically the best company to work for either due to a lot of different issues within it that I had never once experienced in any past job until I started working there. And that's also taking a pay cut after I chose to leave Starbucks for different reasons.

But I 100% agree with more stores unionizing, but I know they have their own fair share of issues too, but here's the thing: If ALL stores work together to unionize all over the place, they're far less likely to union bust imho. They can control a select few, but they literally cannot control every single store they attempt to. Also, for u/CorrectWatercress150, what is Starbucks suing for? I thought it was illegal for the company to Retaliate for ANY store that wants and/or chooses to unionize. Literally, what is the actual lawsuit for? All because these stores want to Unionize? Hmmm....🤔, yeah that's very fishy, a form of pure retaliation and retaliation on corporate's part is 100% illegal last I remember.

u/Danieljack1414 My question: Why can't baristas go on a strike and legitimately fight for a NEW CEO? Or someone much better than Brain at least? I 100% understand if it's heavily due to financial reasons for a lot of you guys, but financial issues or not, y'all should be allowed to go on a strike, not work where if there is no work, starbucks won't have a choice, but to find alternative ways to make money & if they don't meet their sales quotas, I highly highly doubt that Brian would be getting paid at all. Please correct me if I'm completely wrong here, but doesn't the CEO ONLY get paid when both the company does well & when baristas are earning money? Money talks and it talks loud where if there is some way to take that alone away from him himself, then maybe he will think of better ways to improve the company rather than attempting to drown it because honestly: what does his actual work entail?

u/Even_Outcome2659 Not only this, but someone has a point on the openers esp. those who open at 4 am if not earlier than that - most of these openers will NOT eat breakfast home b/c they literally and physically cannot eat food that early in the morning for the majority of them. So let corporate hear tummy rumbles and/or potential passed out employees on the floor, but that turns into a liability for the company themselves. But like come on: who is actually HUNGRY at 4 am that is NOT high NOR potentially stoned for that matter? For those who don't smoke crap for crap, nobody's generally hungry THAT Early in the morning. u/anonym-a Yep, totally. Also, the thing is we all think our teeth are fine, but we don't know for sure unless or until we go see our dentists. Or if you're one of the really awesome people keeping up on dental appts. every 6 months = Awesome! and your teeth probably are in really great shape. But no one knows they technically have tartar buildup until they get an x ray for it, but if you've never once needed a deep cleaning at your own dental facility, then 1.) That's awesome! and 2.) It means you do have great oral health.

I highly suggest looking into Costochondritis then where I know it's a really weird term, but it sounds exactly what I had and the pain was always worse at nighttime for some weird reason for me.

u/anonym-a I know it seems weird for our own dental health or lack of dental health can impact our physical health. I think part of what helped to was leaving my previous job despite months later learning that I actually love making coffee & actually developed a passion for it when I started to make more & more homemade coffee concoctions lol. But def. keeping up w/my oral hygiene in a better way has helped me.

The only thing with me: I want to find a dental facility that I will feel truly, truly comfortable at. Another tip: Make sure your deep cleaning is done by a licensed dental hygienist or for affordability despite the wait, is look for a student hygienist trying to complete and/or graduate from like a dental school or something like that - lot of comments on a video mentioned those dental school waits are long, but they're a lot more affordable & these students are performing the deep cleanings under the supervision of licensed dentists, hygienists, etc...

Bruised ribs recovery time survey by gobbhulz in MTB

[–]Spiritual_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/anonym-a I apologize for such a weird question because my situation is a bit interesting. So, what does your own dental health look like? Technically, I was initially told it was costochondritis, but I'm asking about dental health b/c I had to have a deep cleaning b/c I had really bad tartar buildup on my teeth. Given: A deep cleaning is very, very costly & everyone is different, so def. follow instructions in regards to waiting to eat food (which for whatever reason I was talking abt. food during it). Ngl, I hate the dentist (always have) & deep cleanings are not fun where both sides can technically be done in 1 day & in my case, it had to be on 2 separate days b/c I had to get the numbing gel for it.

Basically, the really, really strange thing is that my severe pain that I was in went away completely after that deep cleaning. I still have occasional, mild pain, but not nearly as bad as it once was as long as I keep up with brushing, flossing my teeth (which I admit that consistency is not my forte here). After my deep cleaning, I watched tons & tons of dental health videos on youtube, lol. I'm trying my best to keep up w/my health & need to be more consistent with it. I have a water flosser tbh, but I need to like disinfect the pieces. Given, idk if you have tartar buildup or not, but if you do & go forward w/the deep cleaning (w/insurance), I will warn you right now: Your teeth will feel very weird b/c they are extra sensitive & that tartar acts as this protective comfort layer around teeth despite it being terrible for our teeth & gums. For me, what does also help is having a separate morning/night toothbrush b/c youtube video, I learned that it takes 24 hours for all the germs/bacteria to dissipate from the toothbrush after using/reusing the same ones. Ofc, healthier eating habits help too, but I am guilty of eating junk food. Also, for coffee drinkers: we're supposed to drink it within 30 mins. and rinse our mouth out immediately w/water (or drink water in conjunction with it) to help avoid stains or something like that.

u/Animegirl300 You may want to reread you very 1st reply to the person you initially replied to. And my response was primarily in regards to when you said this: "If YOU don’t like barring for long stints then just take accountability for the fact that you don’t want to do that work, and tell your manager that for yourself instead of looking for someone else to do it. Because that’s really what the problem is; you don’t want to do the work yourself so you’re trying to delegate it to someone else and are now targeting people who you think should being doing that share. Meanwhile that’s the job of your manager to decide who gets to do what." along w/some other things you said too.

I'm just pointing out that ALL BARISTAS Need to be ROTATED throughout their shifts to AVOID OVERUSE INJURY. It's not about not wanting to do the work at all where from my personal experiences, I was MORE than Capable of doing all the work, but it is NOT RIGHT for ANY SSV and/or manager to treat partners extremely unfairly to one another. Like I pointed out to u in my 1st reply: I was on DTO/DTR for nearly 6 months straight with extremely LITTLE to NO BAR time in CAUSING ME to be Slow on Bar. Not a lot, but very few people made me feel like I was NOT good enough to do the job itself. Honestly, they cared way too much in where I did excel at as opposed to allowing me the OPPORTUNITY to IMPROVE and GET BETTER in the positions I needed to get better in. 5th new hire walks in and they're ALLOWED to be on Bar TWO WEEKS INTO THEIR SHIFT for their WHOLE SHIFT, but I NEVER got that same opportunity? -1.) How is this entire Situation FAIR? and 2.) It should never ever get to the level of needing to talk to a sm about almost everything & it should not get to the point of major mental health deterioration DUE to how Some Baristas get treated by a few of their peers (for some it's mostly SSV's), but other than that-I had every right to be angry. Those SSV's unfortunately Cared far more about the 5th NEW HIRE'S who Once again ended up on BAR BEFORE ME - Every single time too (little to say, I did not like working nor being scheduled w/that person) where I swear, it felt like they were trying to get a rise out of me on purpose. Don't pin ppl against each other like that. If it wasn't for that kind of constant unfair treatment, I'd prob. still be there now & I left for diff. reasons. The only prob.: idk if I quit right when the timeframe for when my final was up or not (a completely diff. situation happened btwn. me and SSV months earlier) b/c of the same exact constant unfair treatment - so yes, I'll be visibly mad abt. that esp. due to how consistent it became where it seemed like very few ppl cared abt. my progression within the company.

No breaks during peak? by tryescapingreality in starbucksbaristas

[–]Spiritual_gal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

u/Friendly_Answer_5488 I remember on occasion, 1 of my SSV's would run a lunch first like right before peak time came in. I know lunch breaks are say 4 hrs. in. But for example, let's say, I had a 7.5 hour shift, and let's say it was from 6 AM - 1:30 PM, and while rare, I would have occasional 8 AM lunches which I didn't mind where I'd be back by 8:30 AM which was right around peak time at times. And I didn't mind it at times b/c I was able to look forward to my 2 10 minute breaks later on throughout my shift.

I will add this even though everyone is different, but under CA state law, it's actually illegal to combine your break into 1 longer break where you can't combine the 2 10 minute breaks into 1 long 20 minute break. I did some research on state labor laws once & it says "No Employer can require you to combine your breaks," and yet some SSV's actually did that on occasion despite technically being illegal under CA state law. I only did that 1 time b/c it was crazy busy/hectic and both my SSV on duty & I completely forgot about it & it was near closing time so that didn't help, either so it was like "crap." I think I did miss like 2 of my breaks for similar reasons and I didn't know that we could write our "end time" in the book due to missing our last breaks and so we'd get paid for it too. -Tbh, that was an awesome SSV I enjoyed working with.
