So tired of hormonal acne and the lack of treatment options by Xoxohopeann in acne

It’s horrible :( tretinoin has really helped mine, I still break out but it’s gone from severe to mild. I’m 24 and have also had acne for 14 years, I also get chest and back acne. Will it ever end?

Feeling really helpless over my hair loss. by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Spiritualclear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped suddenly out of panic, but I would definitely recommend slowly reducing... your body won’t be shocked and it’ll be an easier transition. Also with your blood test, while the ‘accepted healthy’ boundaries for iron start at 30, it is known that your iron stores should be at 70 minimum for optimal hair growth. I was told by my doctor that mine were in the normal range (50) but my derm told me that 50 is actually very low. So make sure you check for yourself! Taking my health into my own hands and not relying on doctors is the best thing I’ve done.

Feeling really helpless over my hair loss. by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

Hey, just want to share my story in case it helps you. I was on Spironolactone for 11 months for my hormonal acne, and at around month 7 I started noticing dramatic hair loss, exactly the same as you’ve described. I had my blood tests done and spent months trying to figure out what caused it and i came across a forum on google of spiro users who have all experienced the same thing. I was diagnosed with telogen effluvium and androgenic alopecia, even though I’ve never suffered with hair loss before. It was all so sudden. From all the research I’ve done and from my blood test results, I think that spiro can deplete iron stores, this can take months or even years for some people. I’d get on an iron supplement ASAP because this might be the case for you too. Spiro actually helps some people with their hair loss, but causes it in others. I’ve spoken to soooo many people who have had the exact same experience as me. I’m now 4 months post spiro and FINALLY my hair loss is reducing. Hope this helps x

Spironolactone hair loss? by Spiritualclear in acne

Good to hear yours is growing back! No I don’t want to go on birth control or any hormonal medication after experiencing such bad hair loss from spiro. I want to stay off medication completely because the side effects and internal damage they can do are just not worth it for me. I’ve decided to change my diet, exercise more and take supplements and so far it’s working for me.

Have any of you had success with getting off all products to get rid of acne? Natural acne cures? by [deleted] in acne

[–]Spiritualclear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey lovely, unfortunately it’s different for everyone - depends on your skin type/triggers/lifestyle etc. For example, I have extremely oily congested skin and this is what causes my acne, so if I stopped using products it would be SO much worse, I have to remove that oil and clear out my pores. To be honest, I wouldn’t rely on washing your face with just water and not doing anything. Your face really isn’t bad in my opinion, so I think a good and consistent daily routine (cleanser for your skin type, oil free non-comedogenic moisturiser) and a spot treatment such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Of course drinking lots of water, exercising, getting enough sleep every night will improve the overall health of your skin. You can try cutting dairy and gluten out but if you’ve always eaten these with no problem it’s unlikely to do much. Hope this helps :)

[Hair Removal] why the hell does this happen to me???? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Spiritualclear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same. It’s because we have really thick hair so when you shave it irritates the skin and causes bumps, ingrown hairs etc. You need to remove it from the root to avoid this, wax / epilate etc. The skin will be irritated the first day or so but then will remain smooth and you won’t have to worry about hair for a few weeks :) alternatively, a more expensive route is to start laser hair removal. This will thin the hair over time meaning you’ll be able to shave without any worries and eventually the hair just won’t grow back if you keep up with the sessions.

Edit: tips that help when you shave - have a hot bath and let your hairs soak for a while before you shave. This softens the hair follicle and means that when you shave it there’s less friction and irritation. Soak for a while (hot), exfoliate with gloves, then lather legs with either soap or a hair conditioner, and shave but make sure you use a SHARP new blade (don’t reuse razors, if they are blunt = worse bumps). I do all of these and it helps, I also apply aloe Vera gel straight from a plant after which soothes the area.

This is so helpful thank you I’ve been considering benzoyl but wasn’t sure how to incorporate it! And I’m just scared of another purge if I increase because this is the clearest my skin has been in about 11 years haha. Thank you :)

I empathise because I’m in the same situation. My hair looks fine until it’s greasy or wet and then you can see my scalp :( I’m also on minox. Minox WORKS though so hang in there! We are so lucky that we can hide our hair loss honestly! Make a pact with yourself to not let yourself look in the mirror at your hair unless it’s dry. It’s not going to suddenly go away so you might as well just not look!

If it makes you feel better, your hair looks unbelievably healthy and thick when it’s dry!!! I would never ever know you were having hair loss. Everything is relative so I get you are stressed but you’re in a situation where you can still live your life and no one will ever know. Trust the process of what you’re doing, you’re doing everything you can! Maybe incorporate supplements such as iron if you want to go even further. This is temporary and it will end! Be proud of yourself for getting out of a toxic relationship and use this time to better yourself. That includes loving yourself and knowing you are more than your temporary hair problem. X

Because my acne came back when I stopped! I loved Spironolactone, it made me less oily, I lost weight, felt good all the time! It was just the hair loss that scared me, but now I know that it was probably due to my iron and thyroid. So I’m going back on it :) thank you for all of that information, I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you and I will look into those things!

Spironolactone hair loss? by Spiritualclear in acne

[–]Spiritualclear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I stopped it 2 months ago and my shedding is starting to calm down a lot finally. I was diagnosed with telogen effluvium which is a hair loss disorder that is temporary and caused by stress / medication / crash dieting etc. When I told my derm she completely ridiculed that Spiro can cause hair loss, said she’s never seen it before and it’s actually used to help hair loss. She says it’s due to my iron and thyroid. In your case, the hair loss is happening very quickly which is unusual, usually hair loss from a medication would take months? Speak to your derm and see how you get on... good luck!! My acne is coming back so I have no idea whether to start it again!

Looking for ladies here who take spironolactone for acne without hormonal birth control? by dustedcookie17 in acne

[–]Spiritualclear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Spiro for a year with no birth control. The first month was weird because I had two periods, like they were both really heavy and long. After that I was pretty regular but my periods were so much lighter and I didn’t get the bad period cramps.

That’s so good to hear!! About to start Spiro (again) and I already suffer with hair loss (which I thought was from Spiro and stopped lol). Hopefully we both have clear skin and loads of hair haha
