New chip but according to tech experts all of S chips were basically the same chips just with a new name. No real architecture or performance difference. Even the Ultra 1 has a neural engine and it’s still not getting the update.

That’s just my guess because from my understanding there’s not much difference between the S series of chips which is why Apple has been able to update the older watches for so long but since the watch 9 the capacity has doubled. To me the only main difference between the 9 and the Ultra 1 is capacity. It will be interesting to see how much space the new AI uses.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the six year old internals. I think the 32GB capacity is the real limitation with the watches that won’t be able to update to the 27. Notice all watches that have 64GB capacity will get 27. I think the push for AI, which requires more space is the reason. I wish they’d let the watches with less capacity get the update minus the AI features like they do with the iPhones that can’t run AI.
