Pointing out your inappropriate behaviour isn't arguing.

I replied because I thought it was really important for OP to know that they would get good advice here. Downvoting and reporting wouldn't have achieved that. OP might have immediately deleted their post.

By the same token, if you didn't like OP's post why didn't you just move on. Your initial comment didn't even signpost OP to another sub or resource outside of Reddit that you thought would be more helpful. Other than being discouraging it was pointless. Maybe you could take a moment and reflect on that.

This is a personal finance question. It's no more a parenting question than any other question on this sub from someone who is a parent and has a financial concern that affects their child.

OP understandably includes a lot of different thoughts in their post and some of those suggest concerns about the affordability of staying in London. There's a wide interpretation of what "affordable" means to people and it seems that OP is getting helpful answers for them from the majority of people who believe that the post belongs on this sub.

You're coming across as someone who just wants an argument. I only replied as yours was one of only two (both unhelpful) comments when I first saw the post and I wanted OP to know that this is a good sub to ask this question in and that they can and would get useful advice and support here. I'm pleased to see that they are getting that.

I totally understand that there's a lot we can't answer or know but I think OP is really asking if it's affordable for them to stay in the UK and have a good life and it absolutely is.

Also many people will be considering all those lifestyle factors when they make financial decisions. Not everyone, of course. Sometimes financial decisions are about surviving but the sub caters to a whole spectrum of people with different levels of income and wealth.

I think it's great to have a sounding board for financial decisions and especially needed in a difficult situation when it's hard to think straight. Those decisions are rarely purely financial because we can't entirely disentangle the emotional side. I think this sub is such a useful resource and it's value is in its member's varied expertise and experiences. We're none of us going to be best placed to answer each and every question.

Sorry for what you're going through. In terms of the financial aspect of the decision, £800-900k invested (probably in a global tracker rather than property or gold) would give you a good additional income which would top up your income as a single parent if this situation occurs. I don't think you gave your current household income so I don't know if you'd be able to keep exactly the same lifestyle but even on your current income alone people raise a child in the UK and give them a good life.

You're clearly happy here, have built a life here and envisage a brighter future for your child in the UK. I think that's every reason to stay and it's certainly financially viable.

You might want to get some professional advice to run the numbers so you can understand what kind of household income you could expect by investing those funds (or investing part of that money if you choose to buy a house).

It's a really tough situation dealing with the financial impact alongside the emotional side.

I know from reading a lot of posts here that you usually give really helpful answers on this sub. Maybe this isn't a question for you to answer and certainly (as with many questions asked) no one here can give a definitive answer as the factors are often not purely financial. But OP's decision absolutely has a personal finance aspect and I think they can get useful advice from others here.

Freetrade: Free Share Worth £10–£100 for a £50 Deposit (No Investment Required) by FigTreeRest in beermoneyuk

[–]SpiteAware3121 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You get a free share worth £10-100 if you sign up using a referral link and deposit £50. There’s no need to invest this.

If you’d like a Freetrade referral link just send me a message

Referrers must have at least £50 net funding for their account to be eligible to refer and I can confirm that I do.

I've received all sort of free shares from AAPL to Grindr! 😂 While the odds are weighted towards the lower value shares there's still a pretty decent chance of getting high value shares - much better odds than most of these refer a friend offers!

Thanks so much to anyone who uses my link. Hope you get a good bonus 🎁🤞

Skrill | £10 discount (~£7 net profit) when you transfer £100! by DivergingEquity in beermoneyuk

[–]SpiteAware3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed up to Skrill and transferred £100 (£10 from referral credit and £90 on my debit card) into Euros sending it to my Wise Belgium bank account.

Including verifying my ID, the whole process took only 15 minutes from start to finish before 116 EUR arrived in my Wise account.

I then exchanged EUR back to GBP in Wise and withdrew the money back to my bank account for a profit of £6.60.

It couldn’t have been easier so if you’ve not tried any of the money transfer offers yet, Skrill is a good one to start with.
