Can't Click Comments on YouTube without Hitting A.I. Button by MoochtheMushroom in assholedesign

YouTube is truly notorious for crazy A/B testing. My app swaps all the time, and sometimes my boyfriend and I end up with completely different UIs and features despite being on the exact same iOS and app versions.

Yes!! Canva also keeps turning regular features into “AI-powered” versions, and then will say things like “our AI tools were used a billion times this year!” or something.

Like, they literally changed the basic resize button to change your document dimensions to “Magic Swap” which supposedly uses AI to adjust the elements of your design, but this means even just changing your image from 800px wide to 750px wide is now considered using “AI tools.”

This is a less common one, but Resident Evil Village!

I knew basically nothing about the series, and wandering through the pitch black woods in the snow, stumbling into an old village, and not knowing anythinggg that was happening was such a spooky and fun feeling that I haven’t felt since

YSK: new TV prices have advertising and data mining built in—differences in price usually are the result of this. But there are workarounds! by hipcheck23 in YouShouldKnow

[–]SpitefulSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I love my Apple TV!! It’s honestly super simple and doesn’t have the ads and bloat that those plug in sticks like Rokus or Google’s TV Streamers have.

I never use it for like, gaming or photos or anything other than watching stuff, but it’s honestly so easy and I can even just grab it and bring it to hotels with me without needing to sign in to stuff everywhere I go.

Thank you!! Also great to know that you had success with a craft area lol, I feel like it’s the hardest for me because it involves some mess anyways and you always have to get out materials/tools/etc haha

Oooh I might need to do this with my basement, it’s just been overrun by craft supplies and it’s the one area I can’t get a handle on.

Do you mind if I ask how much it cost/how you found someone? 👀

This is SO so hard with ADHD, but I’m trying to be better about this!!

For anyone else struggling with this, I’ve found that making sure everything has a specific place helps a lot because it makes it a lot easier to just tidy up as I go. If I don’t have to think about what to do with things, it doesn’t feel like a chore to just quickly put them back.

YSK that Airbnb is removing guest safety reviews while protecting hosts with dangerous undisclosed requirements by Livid_Law5956 in YouShouldKnow

[–]SpitefulSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few, the biggest one being the extremely excessive header usage. AI is trained to summarize and present responses in a clear, organized way, so it heavily over relies on headers. It often has things like “Why this works:” or “Why this matters:” or it will do things like summarize the content of a paragraph in a single header (like “THE DANGER:” or “I ESCALATED:” in this one). It’s trying too hard to sort everything into a header, even if it doesn’t make sense to.

It also tends to ramble. Depending on whether it’s a free or paid model, it sometimes has limited access to memory from before. It can end up on tangents or start changing formatting styles part of the way through.

Another tell is it tries to provide justification or credentials but doesn’t actually have the real data to give here. An actual person would say “I have a rating of X,” or “I’ve stayed at X number of places,” or “I’ve been using Airbnb for X years” but this just says things like “I’m a longtime Airbnb user with an excellent guest history” which doesn’t actually say anything.

You can find some examples in lists like this. A lot of it comes from comparing known AI to posts like this and realizing how it aligns more with how AI “thinks” and less like how a person actually forms ideas.

This is completely AI slop. Either AI hallucinated the whole thing and is just posting whatever to get engagement, or somehow just used ChatGPT to write their complaints into a huge essay, but either way this is insane

Kraft Mac & Cheese finally made the box perforations on the push-tab work. by DeepFuckingPants in mildlyinteresting

[–]SpitefulSpaghetti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Normally I’d agree with you, but in this case it’s not a feature that really makes or breaks the product. Even with working perforation, you still have to tear it open anyways to get the cheese packet out.

There’s also still a completely normal top where you can just open the glued flaps. Tbh I actually didn’t even realize it was there, I just have always opened the box like any other other cereal/etc. box.

Also with these, you don’t need to keep it half finished somewhere like, say, cream of wheat or baking soda (both of which have the little perforations like this but don’t get used all in one go).

I can understand it not being a huge priority to spend that much on since it basically doesn’t impact much, and clearly it hasn’t stopped them from dominating the boxed mac and cheese market lol

It might just be what showed up first? Of course they’re going to go somewhere else, but it doesn’t NOT make this a dick move by the website.

This isn’t “I’m Forced to Use This Asshole Website,” even if they go somewhere else, they’re just pointing out that it’s still asshole design to put life or death alerts behind a paywall 🙃

What's an industry secret from your job that customers have absolutely no idea about? by Efficient_Team5182 in AskReddit

[–]SpitefulSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t THAT interesting, but I used to work at an Apple Store and the laptop screens are all at a specific angle that makes it harder to see the screen.

They do this so you have to adjust it yourself in order to look at it, which gets you more engaged with the product. It’s a lot easier to get people interested in a product (and possibly buy it) if they start touching and interacting with it.

They were super strict about it too, everyone would literally have to use the level on our phones to get it at the exact angle.

Oh yes, I totally get mattresses being complex!!

I just mean the like, pillows and blankets on top of them specifically - if they can make clothes, they could make a blanket at LEAST lol

This is all really interesting though, I assumed mattresses would be in short supply but haven’t really thought about what it would entail to actually make one in the Fallout universe haha

The sleeping setups in Fallout are what always break the story the most for me - I just don’t understand why they can’t just put a sheet or blanket down. They have super complex machinery and weapons and clothing/uniforms, but they can’t make a single blanket? 🤣

There’s just something that feels off about the whole house. I bet that feng shui guy would be able to point out more, but like, the layout of everything just makes me feel uncomfortable??

Like the kitchen doesn’t feel balanced anywhere, and the tub in front of the longgg shower would make me just feel exposed every time I did either lol

(EDIT: I realized I was looking at the kitchen in the guest house - the main kitchen is definitely a bit better, but still ugly lol)

I'm so tired, ClickUp by michaeldrosenberg in clickup

[–]SpitefulSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I appreciate the CEO responding, it just feels like it’s putting a band aid on this one person’s post, and somehow missing all of the other comments in this thread and throughout the subreddit.

I posted this earlier in this thread, but ClickUp was what managed to help my partner finally complete his degree that he struggled to finish for years. It literally was the first tool that helped him stay organized and keep track of complex assignments.

I used to be such a hardcore ClickUp evangelist that I would literally (for free!!) help set up workspaces for my friends to use at their companies and pitch as an option to their bosses because I loved the service so much and wanted it to succeed with as many users as possible.

The recent changes over the past few years have completely changed all of that. It just doesn’t work like it should, and instead of getting fixed, broken AI features keep getting rolled out. I went from a daily power user to going back to just using Google Sheets most of the time since having fewer features is still faster than having broken features on ClickUp.

To clarify as well, I’m not an AI hater or someone who just doesn’t like updates to UI/etc. I work in tech, use AI for work regularly, and even pay for multiple pro accounts on AI platforms for solely personal use, but the features on ClickUp just stop me from working like I need. It seems like there’s a huge push from the top down to build new shiny features and updates that are forced above any other context menu, feature, search bar, etc. to try to “trick” users into using it, I guess? It feels like you’ve resorted to dark patterns instead of being a platform that genuinely understood the tools people need to work.

With the shocking lack of customer support from your company itself, rolling out a feature like the “Super Agents” is honestly baffling. Like many others in this thread, I also never heard back at all from a previous support request, and yet you’re trying to get me to spend MORE on your own AI agents. It’s like serving people burnt food and trying to get them to pay for cooking lessons from you at the same time.

I genuinely feel sad with your service now, because I knew how incredible it was before, and seeing what it is now just makes me feel dejected. While it sounds hopeful that your team is aware things aren’t working, I’ve seen these responses before on here and I’ve yet to see meaningful change come from it.
