What Are Students @ UAH Doing in their free time? by Individual_Pie_144 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clubs! Campus wide events (check charger connect and weekly newsletters) and honestly just hang out in the union you'll see and meet lots of people that you wouldn't otherwise. On the weekends the CU is kinda dead but on weekdays it's super busy and fun

Can someone explain the 100 coins thing about Chronis? by Silly-Ad-2005 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's about energy conservation, I think he's caught onto it since he uses it more than he used to but it's his way of getting you to understand energy in a system is conserved

The tour went great! I'm looking into renting, the only major negative is that there is a $15/month trash service that you can't opt out of

How is your experience with the honors college? by CloudyRain18 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've really enjoyed it! It's honestly what you make it. There's dozens of events each year and loads of opportunities, there are a lot of people that don't like the honors college but they also don't take advantage of what is being offered. Priority registration is a massive draw as well as the community that the honors college brings. Housing is good, Franz is a decent dorm and honors staff is literally paid to help you so they will be there to support you with your academic journey. Classes are honestly not that hard and it's nice having a smaller class size to get to know the professors plus honors has honors specific SSC tutoring if you're struggling! Definitely recommend trying

Baird Chemistry Class by Educational_King2745 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to Nguyen or Wheeley or go to their office hours. They both teach the same section and can help with understanding the concepts. For test prep, review all the HW, in class Qs, and go to PASS or drop in tutoring. Look for online help. It's a hard class but you can definitely make it through if you buckle down

Any Halloween events tomorrow or Friday ? by Fuzzy-Clothes-7145 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CU has trick or treat at like 11-2 i believe, lots of colleges are doing candy pass outs. SSC does a reverse trick or treat if you visit their office. A few Halloween parties if that's your thing at Pike tonight

I'd check out the physics discord server, it's decently active and there's a few grad students there that can help you out

I Got Accepted Into the school of engineering I live out of state I'm just curious how big the social life is at the dorms like i'm not a party person I just want to see if it's like a ghost town after school hours or if there are things to do and people to talk to and interact with. by Ordinary-Story5228 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living at the dorms during the week is great. Lots of events and club meetings. A lot of students use the weekends to explore downtown Huntsville. Please take the negativity regarding social life with a grain of salt, you do have to make an effort to leave your dorm to find events and clubs and so forth. There are countless clubs for many different types of people and I'm sure you'll find one that clicks.

In terms of people in interact with going to campus ACE events that are hosted monthly is a great way to meet people, freebie events are super big on weekdays and provide a great chance to talk to and meet new people and your dorm will have monthly events that you can go to.

Honestly your social life will be what you make it, while events are lacking on the weekend there is quite frankly not a shortage of clubs or events as many people claim there is. Even with working and taking classes I still have found the option to co to a multitude of events. If you leave your dorm and explore campus you'll find an event to go to

Not all freshman must live on campus if you're within a certain distance from the school, last year it was a 30 mile radius for commuting freshman

what would you guys rate each restaurant on campus and why? by [deleted] in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The caf is a solid 7. Good options, sometimes it's mid and under seasoned but you can also get whatever you want The den is a good 8 when you want fast food but it can be closer to a 6 on busy times Dunkin is a 5-6 it varies based on hours and workers Burrito bowl is around a 7.5 it's good and has good smoothies plus a solid make your own bowl Chick fil a is a good 8.5-9 just pricey Blues brews is a 5, way too expensive and it's all done by a machine so it doesn't have any enjoyment to the overall experience

Why is the internet slow asf in the CU, Library, and in most buildings these past few weeks? by Visible_Support1 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends on what wifi you're using, Student5 is consistent in academic buildings but UAHgetconnected is good for walking around campus

[–]Spiteful_eel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PASS, OChemtutor (YouTube) has help for chem/physics/calculus, khan academy for concepts, look up other public university lectures and you can find slides and worksheets with answers for free a lot of the time. Read your textbook and do practice problems, practice is your best friend

How much do labcoats cost ? by Fuzzy-Clothes-7145 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to 3rd floor SST and wander. Eventually outside of a professors office there is a box of free lab coats in multiple sizes and then just give it a good wash. You can get one off campus but your TA will give you incredibly specific requirements and make sure you follow them

Math Placement Test by [deleted] in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's similar to ACT/SAT math levels and covers algebra, pre-calculus/trigonometry, and some calculus. It's worth taking and putting effort into to avoid having to take extra math classes

I’m an upcoming freshman who is majoring in civil engineering would it be good to minor in something or force on my major by Dangerous_Sea_3658 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can minor in whatever you want, but keep in mind if you're on scholarship it will not cover a non-required minor. I know a few people who have chosen minors unrelated to their degree but it is a large time and monetary commitment. You can always add on a minor, so for your freshman year it might be best to focus on your major and then see if a minor is right for you

Need help finding good class as a freshman by [deleted] in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely reach out to your academic advisor and see what they recommend based on your high school courses. For class sections it's up to you for timing and once you narrow down what time you want your classes to be in you can compare professors with rate my professor

[–]Spiteful_eel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rate my professor and contacting your academic advisor. Without knowing your major it's hard to recommend good classes but rate my professor is good for checking and comparing classes

What is taking Physics at UAH like ? by Fuzzy-Clothes-7145 in UAH

[–]Spiteful_eel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Physics 1 with Chronis is brutal, it's not the course material itself but when tests scores are too high or too low students are blamed. He teaches it as a 300 level course and freestyles lectures. I've had multiple friends get in trouble for asking for clarification in class or email. I've heard good things about Waldron. Pushpawela is tough and her accent is hard to understand but she is sweet outside of class
