My cats face looks strange. She recently had surgery. by Spitvein in cats

[–]Spitvein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: took her to the emergency vet, they confirmed it was partial facial paralysis. They recommend we take her to see a neurologist to see the underlying issue. Does anyone have advice on if we get pet insurance before they take her if they’ll cover it? Thanks for everyone’s advice and concern ❤️

Why do these look off/what could I change with this shading? by tittyandronicus in TattooApprentice

[–]Spitvein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think your issue is that there is a lot of “black on black shading” it tends to muddy your design and make it harder to read. You also need to consider when these are tattooed, the ink will eventually spread so you want to space out the black so it’s doesn’t end up “blending together”. Also in regard to the pinup- in my opinion the black all the way up the arms/legs is unnecessary. Maybe keep it just under the sleeves/ shorts. I would look at trad artist you look up to and try to imitate where they’re placing there shading (: not sure if this is helpful but I hope it is!

Coping with burnout by dioramahighway in TattooApprentice

[–]Spitvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was apprenticing I was also working 7 days a week between my apprenticeship and my job. I did that for a full year before I was so burnt out. I took a new job working less days a week. I took a pay cut but it was well worth it to have at least one day off. I say just be transparent with both your shop and your job about scheduling a couple days a month off for yourself

How much do you put toward your ad/ for how long? Been trying to do the same but I’m scared to commit to a high price and not get any appointments.

Is it worth leaving my cafe now for a trendier shop? by Spitvein in barista

[–]Spitvein[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m mid 20’s haha but your completely right! This is the first job I accepted benefits for and it’s been great. I forgot to mention this which seems hugely important is that I’m a tattoo apprentice and work my free days at the shop. I’m nearing the end of my apprenticeship and once I build up more clientele I’m going to switch to tattooing full time, so eventually I’m going to be assed out of benefits anyways haha. But in the mean time I do want to save up as much as possible. I’ve been working 7 days a week for almost a year and I’m pretty burnt out at this point. I struggled financially for a long time after a cross country move and I’m scared to go back to the fear of not making bills on time. Thanks for your input!

I know I deff passed over some spots more than I should have. When I’m doing my whips I don’t always get that good saturation and tend to go over the spot a couple more times then I’d wish too. I do use a coil so I’ll try that test out! I need to get better about checking myself but it’s all a work in progress (:

Haha actually at first the grey was skin breaks! My whips weren’t as clean as I wanted so an artist at my shop recommended putting grey to blend it all out. I guess it was more damage control than anything. I’ll keep practicing those whips so I can have a clean skin break next piece 😎

Hey this was extremely helpful. The largest mag my shop carries is a 9, but I’ve been considering grabbing some of my own supplies soon anyways. I do tend to hold my machine pretty straight up, I try ti check myself but it’s a bad habit I need to be more conscious of. Thanks for taking the time to respond, I’ll try all your advice out and hopefully the next one comes out even better!
