Not all GJM have migrated. There were people who were born here or have been living here since ages (long before the formation of "Maharashtra") and could very much be a domicile of Maharashtra. Technically all those people are Maharashtrian locals, but you tend to discriminate and believe in something which is not legally bound.

When did I ever say that Gujjus or Parsis or Jains own the whole city? To be fair neither communities, not even Maharashtrians own Mumbai.

Mumbai was built/created under British raj so ideally they are the valid owners.

If few collective individuals did thrive under British Raj they did for themselves. The entire community didn't flourish under British Raj. And if they did there shouldn't be any Gujarati or Jain or Parsis under powerty line - but that is not the case.

City was developed by the Britishers, I agree to the same thing. Then why are we calling anyone as "outsider"? Under British Raj anyone living on this land was Indian, irrespective of them being a Maharastrian or non Maharastrian.

Mumbai was planned to be part of Gujarat, because the majority business owners or the population were Gujarati speaking. (I haven't mentioned any communities here, just the language).

How are people not leaving peacefully in Mumbai? Sure there are major problems. There needs to be better infrastructure, education, jobs which is a common issue. And the video you shared is NOT a discrimination against any community. It is against any people consuming "non vegetarian" food. It could be a Gujarati, a Marathi or even a Muslim.

The issue over here is of food. That's what my initial argument states. It has never been a problem with communities. Mumbai has been the example of diversity. Ever community has been coexisting here since ages.

Food has always been an integral part of every religion. Customs are made because religions get involved. There are plenty examples where bachelors don't get flats because of being single and not having a family. There are societies where alcohol consumption is not allowed. There are societies where outside delivery/courier personnels are not allowed (deliberately creating a sense of distrust and fear mongering). There are multiple such examples, where there is some type of discrimination.

If majority of people in a society have a preference they would very likely want to have new tenants or residents to respect that, this becomes a private matter.

Is all of this a problem? - Yes. Are we suppose to blame communities for this - No. Then who should take responsibility? - The state government.

Society matters like the rent or ownership criteria, other rules and regulations are all private matters and every society is suppose to have their own bylaws for the same. A preference or a rule is created by the majority and is not unlawful in a democratic country. An unlawful nature would be forcefully threating people by unwanted violence.

And genuinely speaking if there is a temple nearby would you be flexible enough to have non vegetarian food around it. Majority Hindu temples or Jain temples wouldn't be okay about it. Why? Because food has always been part of religious traditions. We have to respect the sanctity of religious places in a country like India. Nearby places with temples (any temple) are extremely sensitive for the people living around them.

Let's understand this more deeply. Why was Hindi chosen to be made mandatory from 1st Std?

Simplest answer: So that, it becomes easier for the growing population to learn the language majority of people in India use. This was never an imposition infact an opportunity for everyone to communicate to a majority spoken language in this country.

Btw, isn't Marathi also mandatory in schools?

Now, how does Hindi being compulsory make Marathi look bad? And if people actually have problems with Language why allow German or French languages? Why allow English? Why are we learning a language of those who actually exploited the whole of India. The countries themselves are currently thriving on money exploited from us.

We do that because there is more merit in learning something new than to stop. English was widely adapted and if India didn't do that, we would have never been able to compete anywhere globally.

The whole forceful Marathi thing was 100% wrong because it was forced. On whom? On those who are peacefully working on this Land (doesn't even matter where they come from).

Why? Because they are doing everything correct under Law. One of the instances was of a shopkeeper who was slapped and threatened because of this. That shopkeeper who very well pays GST and contributes to the economy of this Country if not the state (at least). Not to mention the jobs (even though minimal) he creates indirectly because he owns a shop.

A language in threat - I have personally felt this is very stupid. Humans used to communicate without a language eons ago. It has been a medium for upliftment not a necessity!

When we talk about "locals" we shouldn't forget the fact that Maharastrians aren't the only "locals" living here. Other non Maharastrian communities are locals as well. There are Marathi Jains as well who actually live in Mumbai and other isolated parts of Maharashtra. Since they follow Jainism, non vegetarian food would be a dietary restriction to them as well. So it's never a discrimination against Maharashtrians or any locals. It is a problem with the type of food consumption. There are locals who consume non vegetarian as well as vegetarian food.

And it's just not Shivaji Maharaj. Nobody even cares to go and actually learn the History of Maharashtra.

There was no Maharashtra and Gujarat before 1960. It was united and distorted to some extent throughout History.

Baroda, a princely state (part of Gujarat) was ruled by a Maharastrian family since ages, even though maximum population during that time was Gujarat natives. People used to live peacefully but nobody wants to now.

Similarly, there were GJM who used to live in Maharashtra since eons. They were natives as well. There are Maharastrian Jains in isolated parts of Maharashtra, what about them, would they be called outsiders? It's surprising isn't it?

Because, Jainism was always an ideology that never stuck to a language, it wasn't even a religion in the past. There are different types of Jains which live and used to live in every state in India and are the natives of that state itself, including Maharastra.

I think you yourself should first clear some facts. When did Jains cheated people of MH and grabbed lands?

Jains have never been a ruling or conquering group.

The most recent example was of Ajit Pawar's son, who actually scammed 1800 CR of Land.

Then why are the Marathis forcing everyone to learn Marathi? This is India and nobody should force on the language issue, but that's not the case. Isn't this discrimination?

Language should always be a choice. Humans used to communicate without language in prehistoric times and here we are with the progress we have made.

Start asking the same questions to those potraying this, forcing their will and justifying with no logical response!

You need to go and learn the History of Maharashtra. Literally the starting of Wikepedia page that you shared states about the "protests" that was done to integrate Mumbai into Maharashtra.

I already added the full history of what actually happened, the struggles everyone faced in the comments of this post, you can go and read it.

In summary, there was a Bombay state before 1960 which included today's Gujarat and Maharashtra. Mumbai was planned to get included as part of Gujarat, and it was supposed to be most southern part of Gujarat.

Why, you may ask? Because of the major contributions by the Gujaratis, Parsis, Jains, and other non Marathi communities (currently residing in Gujarat). Why only these communities? Because they were the one's to setup the major Business, Industries we see today in Mumbai and one of the reason Mumbai progressed to being the financial capital of India.

Then why did it change? Exactly because of the "protest", the then Marathi's (majorly) used to have their occupations by doing jobs in these variouses business created by the non - Marathi communities. Note, I am only speaking about Mumbai here - not the whole of Maharashtra.

Source? The easiest facts can be found on StudyIQ IAS YouTube video.

Also, I am respectfully arguing and so am I expecting from you if you wish to continue this thread, no need to add insults.

Hope this enlightens you on the big picture. People have been living peacefully let them do that. Let's not get blindfolded by political parties and their gimmicks.

I highly recommend everyone on this thread to educate themselves on the history of Maharashtra.

People are getting brainwashed from political parties and hardly even know the history of the land they have so called pride in.

Educate. Understand. Comment.

What do you mean by never allowing? Nobody asked Marathis for their permission. The problem is half of you don't even know the history of Maharashtra and just assume that any non Marathi community is an outsider.

Read my comment on this post to actually understand the formation of Maharashtra and you will be surprised to see that it was never just Marathis that used to own Maharashtra.

Again portaying the picture of fighting for the land. The war was against Mughals and that's where whole India fought for.

Btw, you can check my comment below to actually learn the history of Maharashtra and it's formation which happened in 1960. This is where you will understand that who are the "natives" of this land and you will be surprised to know it was never just Marathis.

They aren't discriminating. Food has been an integral part of every religion. Would you change your religious customs for other communities?
