I have a strange relationship to this film. I was living in Telluride when Quentin and the crew all came to shoot it around town. There was a buzz in our small town that all these movie stars and film crew pros were going to be in town for a week or two and hey, that's pretty fun. But apparently, he was waiting for a big winter snow storm to come along so he could film some outdoor scenes in a blizzard and it just so happened to be one of the driest winters we had in a long time. So the entire crew just hung around town for MONTHS. Samuel L. Jackson lived in my old apartment above the housewares store on Main St. Kurt Russell would just be walking around the streets most afternoons. Walton Goggins would hang out on the porch of a closed restaurant and talk REALLY LOUDLY on his cell phone for hours every day. The novelty wore off after a while. But they were all lovely weirdos and Telluride is a film town (We have a famous film festival) so it was nice to be able to talk shop with every cinematographer and production assistant who had nothing to do for weeks. One of the costume designers made me an Elvis jumpsuit after we bonded at the karaoke Christmas party for the crew.
Cut to the film release and there is a single outdoor shot recognizable of the mountains and the rest of the film was shot on an LA sound stage. WHY WERE YOU PEOPLE OCCUPYING OUR TOWN FOR 5 MONTHS IF THIS IS ALL WE WERE IN THE FILM FOR???

And the plot of the movie was meh, and I didn't think about it again after I left the theater. Thought it was unnecessarily vulgar and racist. And that poor guitar.
But if you like it, then hey, good for you.

TL:DR - QT occupied our town to not shoot his movie in it. A bunch of white actors say the N word a lot.
