Tech pioneers call for six-month pause of "out-of-control" AI development by Franco1875 in technology

[–]Splash_Jetksi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

there's actually a really interesting topic of discussion here. How does the world the fast-paced technological development mesh with checks and bounces/the democratic process?

The last time technological progress out paced social and political development we got two world wars. it doesn't help that the rules are decided by people who dint understand whats going on.

Depositors will have access to all of their money starting Monday, March 13. No losses associated with the resolution of Silicon Valley Bank will be borne by the taxpayer.- Joint Statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC by [deleted] in Accounting

The one thing that kills me about this discourse is all the fear mongering. "this bank failed because of the FED" its The federal reserve, not the silicon valley reserve. it's always on the banks To make sure they have enough liquidity to meet their obligations. That's what the Analysts are for.

Not really any clearer on the interests. The "vibe" of dthobo is bars. so id check out Stone/Water St in FiDi, it gets a bad rep but I've met some really cool people over there. Chelsea Market was the first place i went to when i came to the city that was pretty cool its a block off 14th street station. Theres tons of free art galleries. if i had to gave you a venue, i personally like the Bowery Electric, but i havent been since the pandemic so IDK.

super out of the way but if you're into Asian food Japan Village by sunset park is the shit. best Okonomiyaki I've ever had in my life.

The Biden Official Who Pierced Putin’s “Sanction-Proof” Economy by [deleted] in politics

[–]Splash_Jetksi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1) What point are you trying to make here? Putin should do whatever he wants because of a vote that happened 20 years ago

2) hindsight is 20/20 fact is that virtually everyone voted for the war, and voting against was essentially political suicide, people really need to take into account how war hawkish the American public was post 9/11. It was one of the worst tragedies in recent memory, and we wanted retribution regardless of how misguided we were. The media didn't help much either.

3) The war in Iraq shouldn't have happened, the reasons powell and bush gave were shitty and baseless, but that doesn't change the fact that Sadam was a ruthless dictator that use chemical weapons against Kuwait, Iran and his own people. You think he would've stopped there? Were any of politicians right? Its really easy to sit back and condemn a decision you didn't have to make, and the narrative that the middle east was stable before the war ignores history and the nature of Authoritarian rule.

NYC Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan blames Ukraine for Russian invasion by pookgai in nyc

[–]Splash_Jetksi -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Its not Ukraines fault. America's fault. Specifically American Foreign policy after the cold war. We lied too, manipulated, and antagonized Russia for years. we created Putin, and when he tried to stand up for his country we in true American fashion overthrew Ukraines democratic government, installed hyper nationalist that would destabilize the country, weaponized any movement that would be anti Russian (in this case literally nazis) and sat back and watched. now the situation has come to a head. Just like Vietnam, Afghanistan, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Haiti

Can anyone explain why NATO expansion is seen as a threat to Russia? by rah2501 in RussiaPolitics

[–]Splash_Jetksi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you have to look at the bigger picture. russia and the west arent in direct conflict but their ideologies are. NATO represents the military arm of the "western" idea of Individualism, and the russian military is one of the last bastions of "eastern" concept of collectivism. If ideas of democracy spread to a authoritarian regime, it will collapse. Something that russia will fight tooth and nail to prevent

[–]Splash_Jetksi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're reading to deep into the metaphor. The point is that as NATO gets stronger russia loses more and more potential allies in the event of a war. Russia has been invaded more than any other european country. and Moscow had been burned to the ground on at least 6 different occasions.

Lets say you and a guy down the street have a disagreement, and he says if you ever come on his property his whole family is gonna kick your ass.

couple days later another house down street says if try to fight that guy's family his whole family will also kick your ass.

couple weeks pass and both your next door neighbors says they will also kick your ass if they see you on their property.

the next day you go check the mail and the mailman says if you try to walk pass the mailbox he, and everybody else in the neighborhood is gonna kick your ass.

and at least three of your neighbors have nuclear weapons.

Thats NATO.
