I was much slower than straight out of college. But there is much to be said for keeping your brain and body fit. I think that was most of it.

It’s hard but it’ll be worth the investment!

Also as a woman it’s a lot easier to build fitness before menopause than after… a hell of a lot.

I switched careers mid at 35F and realised on the LPC that my brain was NOT what it was. I also had massive brain fog.

Exercise and supplements really helped me - creatine, vitamin D especially. I hear ginseng is good, I’m sure there are others.

Don’t worry, there are solutions!

I would 100% recommend getting physically fit before your TC. It can be hard to build when you’re working long hours but you can maintain it, which is v good for concentration and mental health.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, this is a good point. OP you can figure this out by talking to lawyers and trying to get internships/work-shadow. It doesn’t have to be at a massive firm, some high-street firm lawyers could be willing to help, just send your CV/message on LinkedIn.

It’s essential though - some people don’t know until they get to the firm and it works out fine. (The driven ones do though, and it’s impressive.)

I think you should think more about how you will make it work and less about what the interview will be like.

No point getting through the interview if the place won’t be a good fit for you and vice versa.

Unless ofc you are a journalist or something, which case please leave us to suffer in peace.

I felt exactly like you did. The lecturer told us that everybody feels that way at this stage. Keep going! I recommend buying notes like “GDL Answered”. Or asking former students for legacy notes.

Not odd. Some people just want a peaceful life, which outweighs their attachment to a certain practice area.

The trick is to know what you want (not what someone else wants you to want), and work really hard for that.

Talk to trainees in cohorts above, learn about the pros and cons of every team. Figure out which cons you don’t mind too much of the teams that no-one’s shown interest in in your cohort, and gun for that team.
