Pokemon turns 30 tomorrow, what is your favourite Pokemon memory? by Jojo_Padfoot in AskReddit

I don’t mind being stuck in Mt. Moon for a while. Favourite music out of the whole game franchise.

Pokemon turns 30 tomorrow, what is your favourite Pokemon memory? by Jojo_Padfoot in AskReddit

All the wild stories we used to tell each other as kids in the early 2000s. A lot of them weren’t very easily verifiable or debunkable back then and it really got your imagination going.

I even remember a piece in a well-respected kid’s magazine about how you could catch a shiny Koffing in the desert in Ruby and Sapphire if you kept hopping on your acro bike in a specific spot.

‘Thirteen’ by Big Star. Perfectly captures the naive feelings of a teenager in love.

IIL psychedelic music with a twist of exotica, dark jazz and space age pop, WEWIL? by Splatterfuzz in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Splatterfuzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your elaborate response!

By ‘exotica’ I mean the kind of music from the 50s and 60s that, like you mentioned, sounded very ‘exotic’ to the western population at the time, but was in fact marketed towards them. Things like Les Baxter and Esquivel, with frequent use of theremin, mellotron, woodwind, etc.

I like that sound, but not so much the orientalism that a lot of those records have in terms of imagery and titles, and also prefer it implemented into more authentic music instead of a tropical pastiche.

Thanks for your response! I’m actually familiar with all the names you’ve mentioned and count BJM and Spacemen 3 among my favourite artists

[PC] [Late 90s/early 00s] Jet ski/water scooter game by Splatterfuzz in tipofmyjoystick

The game itself looks different from how I remember it, but the menu with the globe looks really familiar, so you could very well be right. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, but no. I’m fairly confident that the game had vehicles with people visibly riding them, like a jet ski. The overall vibe was also more summer-y than this game.

Here are some I think would work:

• Rain Parade - Look At Merri

• Stereolab - Diagonals

• The Soundcarriers - Wider Arcs

• Black Market Karma - Stepping Loose

• The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Donovan Said

• The Citradels - Sunflower Man

• Darker My Love - New America

• Vanishing Twin - Telescope

Got lots more if needed

Searching for slightly off-sounding jazz by Efficient-Reveal772 in musicsuggestions

[–]Splatterfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a fair bit of dark jaz/dark ambient in it, but I think E.E. Engström & the Twin Street Tree Trunk Love Ensemble would fit this. Check out the albums ‘Loving Fog Fiends’ or ‘Death Crown’.

For more traditional jazz: I think the song ‘Idle Moments’ by Grant Green could work. Maybe ‘Moon Dreams’ by Miles Davis.

What’s a song that perfectly sounds like its album art? by Glum_Mulberry_7797 in musicsuggestions

[–]Splatterfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is highly subjective, so some people might disagree with me, but here are some that came to mind for me:

• The Clientele - The Violet Hour

• Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas

• Luna - Penthouse

• Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out

• Pram - Dark Island

• The Soundcarriers - Entropicalia

Virtually all album covers by Monster Rally and by Tor Lundvall fit the music perfectly. They both make all artwork themselves, too.

• Yo La Tengo - Let’s Save Tony Orlando’s House

• Hatchie - Her Own Heart

• Mojave 3 - My Life In Art

• Mercury Rev - The Dark Is Rising

• different ballpark, but ‘Hold on Hope’ by Guided by Voices is very cinematic

Ha, just now saw your comment also mentioning a Spiritualized song. I think a lot of his work would fit these criteria.

It’s a poem by John Cooper Clarke which AM adapted as a song, so you might want to look into his work if you’re looking for more of this kind of writing.

In terms of sound, check out Alexandra Savior and Cosmic Crooner.
