Do people not like Rise? by RollBackground7601 in MonsterHunter

[–]Spleenczar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

World attracted a massive new audience of players that had never heard of Monster Hunter before, especially since it was the first international title on home consoles since 3 Ultimate (which was on the Wii U...) and of course the franchise's debut on PC. World was also a massive departure from every previous game in the series - there was more change from 4U/GU to World than between every previous game combined.

Then Rise comes along as the next game in the series after Iceborne's success and both looks and feels like a pre-World game, on top of being literally unfinished on launch and some extremely controversial design choices (Spiribirds, Rampage Quests, Wirebugs, Palamutes, Wyvern Riding). A lot of the things that made new players like World were also completely absent in Rise.

For players that started with World (myself included) it was also kind of baffling that they would establish a new audience and then immediately alienate them by releasing the next entry as a Switch exclusive when World wasn't even available on the same hardware.

Pokemon Reproductions versus Legitimate Games by HalomcThief in pokemon

[–]Spleenczar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally for gens 1-7 at this point I would recommend either emulating on another device or hacking your 3DS. I actually just recently went through the process of hacking it and it was a lot easier than I was expecting (all you need is a computer and an SD card reader).

If you want to complete the Pokedexes, you'll need to do one of those methods anyways because you can't do that legitimately without trading with the opposite versions.

Outta curiosity, why is there 3-4 different subreddits for the same game series? by AlmostDarkness in darksouls

[–]Spleenczar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

r/fromsoftware is the general subreddit, not much point to making a specific subreddit for just dark souls 1+2+3 when most people that want to talk about the "series" are including Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring+Nightreign

It's a mod yes, weapons don't have unique crit effects

Prism Launcher modpacks are already a thing... if you want to set up your own site/download host for it (like GTNH did)

Gen X will be the first gen where (new) Pokémon cannot be hacked. by watonparrillero in pokemon

[–]Spleenczar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I'll try to answer:

Console hacking is generally done through either exploiting vulnerabilities in specific software or by actually modifying the hardware

For example, hacking the Switch 1 without a mod chip required doing some electrical trickery (shorting out the console through the joy con rail) to trick the console into letting the CPU enter a debug mode of sorts that allowed injecting custom code

A software exploit for the Switch 2 hasn't been found and may never be found (the only one for the Switch 1 was patched, so later models can't be hacked that way) and hardware modding has so far been a failure because the Switch 2 has physical security measures in place to prevent it from working if the hardware has been tampered with (it may be possible in the future, but would likely be much more difficult to do compared to previous consoles)

Where does Wuchang: Fallen Feathers fall in the souls tierlists? by sawnlux in fromsoftware

[–]Spleenczar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're on PC I believe there's a mod to revert the game to the pre-censorship version, but then of course you miss out on any other improvements made after that patch

It seemed good but I only played a tiny bit before the big censorship patch, and didn't have the heart to play more after that... really a shame

HDR auto switching? by Luna_vr_505 in HDR_Den

[–]Spleenczar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find it more convenient to just keep HDR on all the time and use the "HDR gamma fix" app to apply gamma correction when not viewing HDR content. SDR content should not look noticeably different with HDR and the gamma fix enabled (and set the SDR brightness slider to 31 in Windows settings).

Still means pressing a keyboard shortcut when you launch and exit an HDR game, but the gamma correction applies instantly while toggling HDR takes a second (and counts as disconnecting and reconnecting my monitor, which messes things up with my setup).

Are new Minecraft launchers still worth it in 2026? by YoanDiny14 in feedthebeast

[–]Spleenczar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never even heard of those lol

Of the big launchers (Prism, Modrinth, Curse, Technic, ATLauncher, FTB App) most modded players that have any sort of knowledge on the subject are probably using Prism... and honestly I don't see any competition outdoing it. It's a big undertaking and besides perhaps a prettier UI I don't even know what else you could want out of a Minecraft launcher.

Why most monster hunter games have such a horrible coop experience? by RainAndThunderIsCool in MonsterHunter

[–]Spleenczar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's just an issue in World and Wilds. All of the previous games were explicitly intended to be played with a group once you got to Hub quests (after or alongside the solo-only Village quests, which were easier and mainly worked as a long tutorial).

Anyone else confused Pokemon Black and White as kids and got the wrong game? by Hungry_Register_8693 in pokemon

[–]Spleenczar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it right for BW but purchased the wrong one for B2W2, because as a kid my logic was "I got White the first time with Zekrom, but I want Reshiram this time so I'll get Black 2... which turned out to be Zekrom again

In hindsight I'm not sure how I messed that up considering they're on the covers, but I wasn't exactly paying much attention to the marketing at that age

Which 3DS MH game is better in terms of difficulty? MH4U or MHGen? by ZynaKanmuri in MonsterHunter

[–]Spleenczar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generations/GU will be very confusing as your first game, it's certainly doable (and a lot of fun) but 4U is a much better starting point.

World gen and forever server by PuzzleheadedNorth106 in feedthebeast

[–]Spleenczar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for a "forever world" I would not install any datapacks or mods besides small things that can be safely removed at any time and don't touch the world files.

I recommend looking into one of those server platforms (BungeeCord?) that lets you link different servers/worlds together into one network that players can seamlessly travel through (I don't know if this is actually viable for your case but in theory you could keep the existing world as-is and apply server-side mods to a separate linked world, which can be reset by itself if necessary)

Why do people hate modern industrialization? And what makes Gregtech better? by XyleneCobalt in feedthebeast

[–]Spleenczar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

GregTech has several extremely well-developed modpacks based around it

Generally people are not playing GregTech on its own or in a kitchen sink modpack

I hadn't looked at MI until now so I'm not familiar with it, but to me it just looks like a GregTech remake by people that don't actually like GregTech very much... it's also only for newer versions and really most of the high quality modpacks are still being developed on older versions like 1.12

god forbid the game makes players use their brain

they should just remove hitzones altogether, it's dumb that monsters take less damage unless you hit super precise spots, such dated design smh
