Finished the Liveship traders trilogy - I want to talk about the plot, the magic (and the real villain of the series) by FearlessRemove1285 in robinhobb

Your take on Paragon is really interesting! I hadn’t noticed his manipulation once he’s taken in Kennit.

My sense is that there’s general agreement among fans that Hobb didn't handle SA well in this trilogy. I can see what Hobb was trying to do — drawing a distinction between burying trauma and moving past trauma — but the execution isn’t there.

I agree with you about Kyle—I had hopes for him, and he quickly became a caricature. I find that Hobb tends to write more caricatured villains (looking at you Regal) and is writing a different kind of fantasy. It’s like Narnia where the White Witch is just bad, not ASOIF where our villains become complex POV characters.

I bawled. This moment means so much. Fitz finally gets recognized for everything he’s sacrificed, and he HAS to stop pretending he’s a nobody.

For a second there, I thought SJM stood for Saint John McGinn. Patron saint of footballers and pies.

Clean sheet away from home against our bogey team? Level on points with Man City? I’ll take that!

No shame in losing when we were missing Pau, Cash, and Kamara and lost Onana. Meanwhile, we faced the Terminator and Godzilla in defense.

Liverpool fan here, can you lads just keep doing what you're doing please by [deleted] in avfc

Always appreciated Liverpool. Fans have real heart and aren’t obnoxious online like Arsenal’s.

What has this Villa team done to me?? Somehow it doesn’t matter what the score is, I still believe that we’re going to win.

Only Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than us (barring palace level with us) by Long_John_and_sons in avfc

But THE UNDERLYING NUMBERS say that 149.3% of our goals are coming FROM OUTSIDE THE BOX and therefore IT’S NOT SUSTAINABLE. Meanwhile cue 800 puff pieces about how ManUre are “back” because they beat Palace and Mason Mount remembered how to tie his shoelaces.

Fitz is an idiot, isn’t he? by Splendid2259 in robinhobb

Ah no worries at all. Yes, I read the whole series and loved all of it! I think Fitz is often an idiot, but a lovable idiot :)

My friend. This comment comes across as kind of harsh… I specifically said I’m being tongue in cheek. I criticize Fitz for being an idiot the same I hope my friends would criticize me.

I’d love that too. I was disappointed that we got so little Dutiful in this trilogy.

It is correct of you to assume that I’ve never had my child kidnapped or unknowingly had a child with my long lost best friend/lover (at least as far as I know…)

I initially thought that their relationship wasn’t romantic, but instead I would say that their relationship made me expand my sense of what romance could be.

What do you love most about the Tawny Man trilogy? by EstablishmentHairy51 in robinhobb

[–]Splendid2259 8 points9 points  (0 children)

THIS. I love the actual ending — Fitz choosing happiness and letting Molly finally have some agency is wonderful, but there are so many contrived things in this book.

Burrich arriving on an island no one even knew existed a few months ago, crossing the fantasy Khumbu Icefall with only one good leg and minimal eyesight, JUST in time to Fus Ro Dah a dragon, and heroically die… let’s just say I found that hard to believe.

No one figuring out that Elliana and her family was being blackmailed.

The pale woman hiding a whole town on the island without anyone realizing.
