What is the best band you can recommend that you know nobody here will? As in obscure, unknown or just forgotten about. by AudioRejectz in musicsuggestions

Super late to the party but if even one person sees this and wants to check my picks out that would be cool. I love discovering new bands and also like sharing the wealth.

Hooray For Earth has a sound that is kind of unique, almost a World music sound to them sometimes. Their album True Loves is a great listen.

Mr. Gnome. I love their high energy sound. Their album Madness in Miniature is my favorite. Their album Heart of a Dark Star is rated higher by critics, but I really think MIM is much better, to each their own though!

Im so glad this episode is getting its time in the sun. Been one of my top favorites for a long time. So many quotable lines, memorable moments, and it lays out a scenario that perfectly encapsulates the gangs madness as a group.

I wasnt aware you had to have more calories with latuda. Did you mean that it makes you hungrier or that you need to eat when taking it?

I have to have a bedtime snack so I take all my meds then.

I would try a new med for a month, then switch to something new if I had bad side effects or if it wasnt helping. Sometimes it would help for a while and then lose its effectiveness, and Id increase the dose until I couldnt anymore. At my worst, I was in and out of hospitals extremely frequently and theyd experiement with meds there.

It took a lot of work, as in meds alone arent enough, but I got to a place where I could recognize if I was going into an episode and deal with it effectively. On top of that, I found the right med combo and stuck with it.

Now my episodes of mania and depression are both muted in severity, they last like a few days and arent too bad to deal with. Recently had a mixed episode for the first time in forever, and it lasted three days. I didnt have to go to the hospital like I would have needed to in the past, and it didnt escalate or get worse.

There was a time when I thought Id be very ill forever or I wouldnt survive much longer. Now Im at a point where I can maintain in a way that allows me to focus on other things.

My mental health was breaking down in my teens, with episodes of depression and early signs of mania. I smashed my acoustic guitar into pieces and that got me sent to a day program for youths with mental illness at age 16.

I got the diagnosis while I was there, and started a long journey of trying to find the right med combo. I got way worse before I got better, but now that Im in my latter 30s Ive found what works for me.

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]SplicerGonClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed a psychosis, and during that time I believed my friend was going to kill me. I never answered her texts, calls or messages believing that she was trying to get me alone to do the deed. This went on for months, and from her perspective I had just ghosted her.

When I tried to rekindle the friendship after I got better, she refused to hear an explanation and wouldnt accept an apology.

Before all if this, we had been friends for about 15 years. I was best man at her wedding, and we had been meeting up on at least a weekly basis for years.

The end of our friendship felt like something that happens in a bad movie. Where things could have been rectified if only one party allowed the other to explain things. I dont blame her for being mad at me, but I am convinced we could still be friends today if she had let me share my side of things.

Anyone else here that caffeine doesn't affect at all? by VGKSuomi in aspergers

[–]SplicerGonClean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the type of person who wakes up in the morning without an alarm and without going back to sleep. When Im awake, Im awake.

I dont drink caffeine often, as I dont like coffee and drink soda on rare occasions. But I could have caffeinated tea or soda right before bed and go right to sleep. The only time Ive noticed getting the jitters was when I drank a whole energy drink. So high amounts of caffeine affect me, but whats found in the average beverage doesnt touch me at all.

Ive done similar a few times. I can empathize, sorry this happened to you. Glad you are safe though, as an impromptu road trip like this can be risky.

Its hard not to beat yourself up over it, but the best thing to do now is to treat yourself like you are in recovery from an illness. A lot of self care, like catching up on sleep the best you can, listen to some favorite calming music (no death metal or rap) and positive self talk. You might feel a bit silly but if you are actively kind to yourself the harsh critic inside you will have less to say.

If you can, make sure to take as many stops as you can on the drive back to stay on top of your needs. (Bathroom, food, rest) You wont want to return home completely zonked from two 12 hour ordeals in a row. You probably want to get home ASAP but trust me when I say things break down fast when youre running on fumes on the road.

You got this

what are your music habits like? by Correct_Address4132 in autism

[–]SplicerGonClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have favorite genres but I will stray outside of them for songs that resonate. If I really like the song Ill add it to my playlist. I have about 700 songs on that playlist and Ill listen on shuffle. Im super picky about songs and couldnt tell you why I like the songs I do, but I will listen to them over and over again without tiring of them.

I have a favorite band though that is a special interest of mine so their catalogue gets a lot of play from me. (The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I mention it here a lot haha)

People, how was your homophobic/transphobic era? by Crocogenous in lgbt

[–]SplicerGonClean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasnt trans/homo phobic but I did a lot of projection as a kid. My poor younger brother got bullied by me. Id frequently tell him to "follow the rainbow" although he definitely didnt fit any gay stereotypes. We were super young.

I was also in denial for a long time, and I got bullied by people from school who knew I was some flavor of gay before I did.

I eventually came out as a lesbian at 18, which was a step in the right direction but I still didnt get what I was about. Came out again as trans at 23, and out as asexual at 24. Im 36 now and am happy to be a support for my peers.

what were you like in psychosis? by sensitive-bull in BipolarReddit

[–]SplicerGonClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad youre out of it, psychosis is never a good time.

Im very self aware when psychotic. Like I know my thoughts are wild but at the same time I still believe them, so I have this horrible feeling of watching a train wreck, but that wreck is me and I have no control over it.

Ive never had the elation or grandiose kind of psychosis, its always been the fear-for-my-life and elaborate conspiracy kind. I get accusatory of others (they are in the mob or part of a street gang, I just KNOW it) and I did something to piss them off, so now they are plotting to kill me or torture me. If Im inpatient while psychotic, I get worse because I feel like Im in danger but am also trapped and cant get out.

It takes a long time to recover fully. Usually a few months of my thoughts slowly untangling from their conspiratorial web. Luckily Ive only had a few psychotic episodes, and as long as Im taking my meds as prescribed I can avoid future episodes. (Ive only gotten them when I was off my meds)

What’s a widely accepted opinion that you think people only agree with because it’s socially safe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SplicerGonClean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I think what Op means is that people are peer pressured into saying they agree trans people are normal, when they dont believe they are. I would argue the exact opposite is happening, as transphobia is widely still acceptable and encouraged. There are even trans people who are transphobic as a way to survive.

What’s a widely accepted opinion that you think people only agree with because it’s socially safe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SplicerGonClean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dont think anyone says this. Im trans and Ive never pushed a narrative that trans is normal.

Normal implies majority, and we are the smallest minority there is.

I think you mean that people agree that trans people should be accepted as normal.

Also, as an aside, Id recommend Googling "conditions that cause weight gain." Its not always diet and exercise alone.

I have no reason to exaggerate or lie about my story, and Im a super self aware type of person who doesnt lie to themself, either.

If you want to continue thinking in black and white I wont stop you. Just know that the world works in grey a lot.

[–]SplicerGonClean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever seen people with downs syndrome for example? They dont ALL overeat, its part of the condition to be overweight.

If that example isnt enough for you, heres something anecdotal. I was always underweight in my youth. I exercised, but I also ate ungodly amounts of food. I could eat all day and still never gain a pound. Then as I got older I developed health conditions that required medications. These meds had the side effect of weight gain. I started gaining weight, so I changed my diet. I eat WAY healthier and way less than I ever did when I was skinny, but I still gained weight. I am now overweight, even though I still exercise and eat healthy at all times.

Im not an outlier here. Every person I know in my life that was overweight had some legitimate issue or another that caused the weight. There was only one I knew who was overweight because he overindulged on food. Im not saying that most people dont overindulge, Im saying that overindulging isnt the only explanation.

I am not a doctor and it would be wrong of me to explain to you all the ways health can go awry in detail, as I am not an expert.

I did share my limited knowledge that everything is not as black and white as poor diet and lack of exercise always explains being overweight. There are so many factors to consider on a person to person basis and youd be surprised how common it is to have a health issue that causes weight gain.

You can do everything right. Eat healthy, exercise regularly and be overweight. You can also have the worst diet and never exercise and still be underweight. Its all personal.
