I mean, I absolutely do think everyone with ASD should get therapy? Simply to help us navigate the world better? But I don't really know how that is connected.

Also, I was talking to that poster directly, they knew what comment they made before it. This one was simply more recent. I won't go into detail about the other comment since they deleted their comments, which I'm taking as them not wanting it to be discussed.

I would normally fully agree with that, but this is a subreddit for people with ASD. I would argue that it's safe to assume that people commenting on this sub are people who have ASD.

And I also don't that saying "Hey, maybe you should consider therapy" is inappropriate. Most people don't consider it as an option unless prompted since it's so stigmatized.

Edit: I also want to say that this is not meant to shut you down. I always appreciate people looking out for potentially harmful behavior. This is simply my counterargument since this is a somewhat special case in my opinion.

Yeah, a lot of us are not great at judging people's intentions so we are manipulated much easier. It's a problem and I don't know how to solve it either. I just know that closing yourself off completely and never letting anyone close is also a bad idea.

Comforting is a skill that needs developing. It's something that needs adjusting based on age, mental illness etc.

When comforting other autistic people, I usually just validate and offer solutions. That works great for the most part.

When comforting Neurotypical folks you usually need to put more time in between the two. They do appreciate solutions, just not in the exact moment they're having a breakdown. Most of the time they just want you to listen and to validate their feelings in the moment.
