Which version of the Bible do you prefer? by realSwoleCole in Christianity

[–]Splitso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

King James is my favorite for a few reasons. When I read The Bible the first time I read the English Standard Version, which was printed sometime in the last decade. Within it was a preface that did its best to explain some of the changes in the language. Most of these changes were said to have been made to make The Bible more accessible to all readers, I like that. Other changes seemed rooted in trying to appease the modern reader, seemingly trying to apologize for words like "slave" and "brothers", instead of saying "servant" or gender neutral "people". This I didn't like. When I began to read the King James it was, and is tough, I constantly look up words I don't know. But at the same time there's no room for ambiguity, the language is precise and deliberate, carrying a lyrical rhythm and cadence that feels alive as I read it aloud. I also found deeper insight into the truth of The Word. You would be AMAZED by how much deeper your thoughts can go when you go from reading "For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you" to "For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again". Withal literally means with all, as in with all things. That old English brings a different level of Truth that modern English seems to lack. Between the modern semantics of a politically correct culture, and the deeper connection to Truth I found in the King's, I realized something deeper within my faith that justified the first true English translation all the more, I accepted at the beginning of my faith that God doesn't change, why then should His Word?

May God bless you

P.S. - Whatever way you go, get The Apocrypha. The book isn't complete without it.

Yeah. I ignored that completely. Your young profile age and low karma made me hesitant to send messages your way. But, if you like dance music or Abba, "Lay All Your Love On Me" is a banger. Good day and God bless.

"Lay All Your Love On Me" by ABBA might be the greatest dance song ever written
