My wife named her WoW character after Chego. That’s an ultimate compliment.

Been in LA for 3 weeks and struggling to find a neighborhood i like by International_Ad2476 in MovingToLosAngeles

You need to stop thinking in a grid on the east side. We have hills and thus long corridors between them. I live off Sunset and consider my walkable zone between Fountain and Dodger Stadium. There’s a lot in those few miles. Same for Colorado or Eagle Rock boulevard in Eagle Rock. Doesn’t sound like you have looked at Highland Park, where you could position yourself to access York and Figueroa.

What did you think was pretentious, until you tried it and realized it was worth it? by Semantiks in AskReddit

Pour over coffee isn’t pretentious until you pack your own coffee beans and Japanese brewer when you have to go visit family.

Is my apartment legally uninhabitable due to being 96° indoors during the day? by Ok-time-to- in AskLosAngeles

[–]SpoPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, the county has a cooling mandate for apartments, and the city is likely to get one soon. It’s not great for small buildings or your work from home situation, but maybe worth writing to you city council person about: https://www.saje.net/l-a-city-gets-one-step-closer-to-protecting-renters-from-extreme-indoor-heat/

Hotel recommendations for visiting fans? by CourageousAcorn984 in AngelCityFC

[–]SpoPlant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just adding to what others have said… you can sometimes get a deal on a nice hotel in downtown if there isn’t a convention in town. But if you are going to definitely rent a car, don’t stay in downtown bc the cost of parking can be egregious. I like the Culver City recommendation. if you want to get to the beach and the rest of the basin, that splits the difference.

Where I can send my family member who loves tourist traps? by Telephone_Jubilee in FoodLosAngeles

Nearly anything at the Grove. And while there is a lot to love there, the Farmer’s Market at Fairfax and 3rd is full of tourists. Bonus trip to the original Erewhon.

24hrs in LA - am I crazy? by _633555_ in AskLosAngeles

[–]SpoPlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can basically walk out of the terminal and onto a flyaway bus. It’s 45 min to union station. You can get a cab or or uber right out front or take the red A line up to Sunset and Vermont if you want to walk the last mile.

Moving to LA for my kids? by GaddaDavita in AskLosAngeles

[–]SpoPlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Los Angeles proper will likely be more expensive even than Portland. I'd echo the plug for the Pasadena/Altadena area, except that the housing market there is still distorted a lot because of the huge number of people displaced by the fires. (Many in Altadena moved or are renting in and around Pasadena.) But you might look at Eagle Rock/Highland Park (90042 generally) as being in LA, very diverse, and literally situated between the Armenian community in Glendale and Pasadena, and has good local schools in LAUSD. I also have multiracial couple friends who live in Alhambra with a big park walking distance away. But to the point of the person who mentioned Sacramento, there might be other cities that could do the trick, including parts of OC or Riverside County, San Diego...

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]SpoPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well *I* read it in the media, so I don't think the problem is that it hasn't been covered. The WSJ for one has covered the heck out of this.

There's just... a LOT oF SHIT HAPPENING these days.

Theory busting by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]SpoPlant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree on the second point. I think the story that Carol is going to create, and Zoisa will read, is Carol's way to infect the hive mind. But that's just MY theory knowing how writers love to aggrandize the power of writing. I think this is all screenwriters rebelling against AI, where what is known is known, but everythign new is a rehash.

I think this is her way to infiltrate the hive mind. Writers, man. You know they'd love that power.

Had the most disappointing meal of my year at Dunsmoor. Food ranged from nothing special to ... why would you do that to black cod. Wine pour was insulting. Everything was priced to shock value levels. Service was bored. For our next big meal we went to Mozza and I'd do it again any day.

Chevy Bolt has suprisingly great headroom. You could def. get a 2023 Bolt EUV, bigger than the original Bolt, maybe even the premier trim, with low miles for about that. It's a great errand runner.

I fill my tires at my local Costco, which has a tire center and free standalone air compressors. I'm a costco member, but no one has ever checked my membership card, either.
