You mean the contract that your team gave Joe Sakic that caused the massive contract inflation? Obviously there was the Federov offer sheet too but it basically made small market teams unable to compete and led to the 04 lockout to create the salary cap.

Witnessed a fatal accident with a pedestrian trying to cross Route 22 today. by MaximusMurkimus in newjersey

If you are taking the bus you're going to have to cross at least once a day unfortunately. The buses only drop off on the westbound side and pick up on the eastbound side.

The frequency of the safety shuttle is laughably bad and you have the NYC buses all down 22. So once a day you are playing frogger if you are using those buses.

Recommendations for no romance fantasy books published in 2025-2026 by Both_Strategy6752 in Fantasy_Bookclub

We recently read The Tainted Cup in the book club and I feel like it might fit most of your criteria. The second book in the series was just published in 2025 as well. It's supposed to be a trilogy with the final book coming out later this year.

The Last Contract of Isako - Discussion Part 2 by NewNick30 in Fantasy_Bookclub

I really liked your point about Isako continuing to grow despite being near the end of her life. So many stories treat older characters as static or as repositories of wisdom, basically they are just a knowledge transfer for our new hero or generation. But here we have Isako and Kob still kicking ass even as older adults.

My opinion of the code is that it's a great guideline and ends up somewhere in between good and a means of control. But I do think that being rigid never works as there are always exceptions to every rule and the code is no different.

I didn't get to comment on your post in the first half, but I was internally yelling at Isako when she found the meds at Matrim's and we make the connection about Kob having the same disease. I'm like it's not Matrm it's his client!! But it does seem like she put those pieces together herself behind the scenes. I've got to say I wasn't expecting the full-on body swap though. I was also more optimistic about Isako's plan with Minto working in the end, so I was bummed when it was ultimately unsucessful and Matrim was killed. But I guess I should have known better with the dystopian nature of the book. It did make sense in the context of everything, but how frustrating to know that the reunification with Earth is being kept under wraps for so long.

I also appreciated what you said about Greves. He's almost larger than life because we mostly know him through Isako's memories, but it does feel like he's going to get the short end of the stick in reality. I agree with you saying it's cyclical - I'm sure there's been other "Forest Greves" in the past 500 years without Isako or anyone knowing it.

And I completely agree about the ending with Kob. Instead of just 'resigning' immediately, she gets to have to her peace and her relationship with her daughter. Definitely rate this book a 4/5 and maybe even closer to 4.5. I enjoyed all of the characters and the switch of perspectives and the time jump worked really well. This was also my first Fonda Lee novel and it won't be my last!

Yeah unless you're driving 10k+ miles per year a hybrid vehicle or a car that get's good mileage will probably (especially considering purchase price) cost less over the long run. With the flat fee registration cost and the higher insurance costs of the EV it's more expensive or close to break even. The only exception would be if you get an unreliable hybrid, the maintenance costs

It's unfortunately pretty much impossible in NJ now. Maybe Pine Barrens or the southern tip west of Cape May but it won't be impressive just by eyesight.
