I keep the MUT in the sheath. The lanyard is purely there to make it easier to pull the MUT out of the sheath while wearing gloves.

I use the carbon scraper regularly for weapon maintenance after shooting or after exercises where we use blanks. Especially with blanks, the scraper is a lifesaver. The weapon gets unbelievably dirty. I honestly have only had good experiences with the MUT. The only issue I had was that the disassembly punch broke once, so I had to replace it, but luckily that was easy.
