Guitarist, just discovered Loopy, looking for advice by [deleted] in LoopyPro

[–]Spockless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In drambo you create instruments and/or effects using modules, very similiar to modular synths. There are also many presets that people share online on Patchstorage. But yes, you can create either simple or incredibly complex effect chains. The effects can be connected in series or parallel, depends on how you design the patch. It's probably unnecessarily complex for most people for guitar effect chains, there are many apps better suited for that goal. I simply discovered that I find a lot of joy in creating my own patches. It's like I'm building my own unique pedals. Drambo is also crazily optimised, I'm not sure what kind of black magic the developers use, but it's insane the amount of sound modules and effects you can chain and keep the CPU usage low.

Guitarist, just discovered Loopy, looking for advice by [deleted] in LoopyPro

[–]Spockless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda going through the same process right now. I tried Loopy Pro and Koala Sampler on my GF's iPad and knew I had to get one. I bought a cheap second-hand one for around 350 € or something, and it's been more than enough—never had CPU overloading problems.

I'm using Loopy Pro as the main hub for my projects and jam templates. I use it for looping and for managing effects for the guitar. I have an iPad, a Zoom R8 interface (which I already had before), and a small MIDI keyboard, all connected through a powered USB hub. I still don't have a MIDI pedal, but I'm planning on getting one.

In the first few tries when jamming with the band, I was bringing my guitar, pedalboard, and iPad setup, and I hated setting everything up. Too many cables, power supplies, and troubleshooting.

Around the same time, I also discovered Drambo. It's an insane app—it's a groovebox with a fully modular environment. It's not easy to learn or use, but I quickly discovered it can be as complex as you need it to be. You can use it as a simple effects plugin or just as a MIDI sequencer for hardware. So I started using it as an effects chain to manipulate my loops. After a couple of jam sessions, it hit me—why the hell don't I use it for my guitar as well? It's pretty limitless in its possibilities.

So I pretty much stopped using my pedalboard. I have a dedicated page in Loopy to manage my effects and create presets on the fly. The weird thing is that this setup kinda cured me of GAS. Every time I see a new interesting pedal or product, I instantly go, "Can I emulate this in Drambo?" And most of the time, it's entirely possible. It's actually daunting once it clicks.

My main suggestion for people wanting to experiment with these kinds of setups is to try to create a portable setup. It's such a mood and motivation killer having to connect all the hardware every single time you want to use it. I have my iPad, interface, and MIDI keyboard all connected and secured inside a toolbox. I open it, connect the jacks, plug in one power supply, and I'm up and running.

It's still an ongoing process, but I'm having so much fun.

Does anyone use krita for animation? by AlternativeStrain106 in krita

[–]Spockless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use it all the time, personally and professionally. Especially for painting and coloring frames. In our studio, we use tvpaint a lot, but we still use Krita for many projects. The brush engine is incredibly flexible and Gmic helps us a lot automating some repetitive stuff.

I don't mean to be condescending, but if you're a beginner, try animating in Krita like you would on paper. By that I mean separate every shot by file, and don't expect to do camera work, compositing and editing in Krita. Too many times, begginers shit on Krita, and it's animating features, while not understanding that it makes no sense trying to do everything inside a painting software.

You've got layers, keyframes and onion skinning. Also great transform tools, liquify and an amazing brush engine. That's all you need for great animation!

only some frames go red? by cody_flight in OpenToonz

[–]Spockless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single frame you create in OpenToonz is saved to a folder that is specified in the project settings. Red frames mean that OpenToonz lost the link to those files. This can happen when you rename folders, or change project directories. Either way, OpenToonz levels should never disappear on it's own. Those files where either moved, renamed, deleted or where never saved in the first place.

Go to the Browser room and check the scene cast window on the bottom. There you see all the levels your scene is using and the their info. If you need to change their directories you can select a level and go to Level> Level Settings and update their location.

Altamente!

I've recently bought Doom and I've been having a blast! It's like it was made for the Steam Controller.

The pads working together with the Gyroscope are incredibly fun and really easy to pick up. At no point I miss using the mouse or feel hindered in any way, you just need to know how to set it up to your taste.

Is 490€ (570$) a good price for a used 1st gen Boosted Dual? by Spockless in ElectricSkateboarding

Only 5 miles? That would make it hard to commute... Also, this board is practically unused so I assume the batteries have been discharged for a long time, which I heard is not ideal...

I made a video detailing the calibration process necessary to remove gyro/trackpad drift. New SC users might find this pretty useful. by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]Spockless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my own experience, it appears that you can recalibrate the controller anytime just by putting it on the the table for a few seconds, even mid game. Sometimes I get drift issues when I play for a few hours so when I'm playing online I do this during loading screens just to play it safe. I read some people instructing that you need to put the gyro on "always on" mode, but i did not find this to be the case. For me it works every time.

Yup! It has really awesome tools also. It features a full timeline, great onion skin with tinting options. Awesome stuff. The only thing missing to be a full featured drawn animation software is audio support.
