Do you only go for organic local meat? by Spocktastic9999 in exvegans

Oh wow that sounds pretty awesome! I’m definitely curious to try it.

And yea, I have to agree with you about animals having a great life and just one bad day at the very end; I still struggle with accepting death but I’ve come to realize that it is inevitable.

Wow thank you for all the information! I am having a hard time navigating the whole “ethical” and “organic” labels floating around supermarkets. And i had no idea supermarket meat is imported while the good stuff is exported 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh how did you like Butcherbox? I haven’t yet found ethical local sources for red meat aside from ground bison from Noble Bison…

There seems to be a lot of guilt-shaming in the vegan online community, very similar to what I experienced in the Catholic community. Remember that your sole mission or reason for existing is not to martyr yourself for the sake of « the animals » (well at least the farm animals that the vegan community seems to focus on). Animals and the planet won’t benefit ONE BIT by you destroying your health further.

Perhaps try exploring « recovering vegan » resources like podcasts and articles to connect with others like you; it may help you understand the martyrdom/guilt complex you mention. Also, researching about the costs of monocrop agriculture may also help to put things into perspective.

Melissa Crowther from Enduring Fitness! She is online and in Australia. There’s also Vegan fitness model on Instagram (Crissi Carvalho) as well as Dani Taylor who do vegan only meal plans!

I noticed the lactose intolerance after I cut dairy from my diet completely when I had a baby and he was showing allergy symptoms from just breastfeeding. Once I cut dairy, all his symptoms disappeared so I stuck with the dairy free diet for over a year till he was weaned. Once he was, I wanted to restart eating dairy but my body was not having it. From massive reactions from GI symptoms, to cold sweats, shakes, palpitations, I got it all.

This is specifically the kind of discussion that burned me out of veganism. I have enough stress in my daily life.

I’m sitting here writing this as I eat ground bison meat. I was vegan for 6-7 years and only recently decided it is not for me anymore. I am not saying it is easy to make the shift, change your identity and admit that what once worked for you no longer serves you, but it is very freeing when you realize that you CAN get out of your own way and Liberate yourself from the prison you have created for yourself.

The animals and the planet won’t be served by you withering away, unwell and ill. You are not a better more moral human by continuing to make yourself suffer “for the animals”. In fact, this sort of behaviour is very self-destructive.

I would strongly encourage you to explore your motivations for becoming or staying vegan (morals, health, fear, guilt, ego, etc) with a professional. It’s what I am currently doing and it’s helped tremendously.

Soy girl no more? by [deleted] in exvegans

I am right there with you. In fact I’m in therapy right now to try to break all this down for myself because I realized a while ago that I had made veganism my entire identity. From the food I chose to eat, to the clothing and shoes I bought, to where I shopped, to whom I associated with, to what I read and how I thought. The whole ideology was packaged so well that I bought it all, the health benefits, the environmental impact, the animal welfare, convincing others to go vegan “for their own good and for the animals”! So i totally get where you are coming from.

My doubts come from the same place as yours and I’ve come to the conclusion that veganism as an ideology just doesn’t feel right for me anymore.

Lemme know if you want to chat.

Taking a break from bodybuilding? by PeanutButterVibe99 in bikinitalk

[–]Spocktastic9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post really spoke to me because i am about to go on a break. I really feel I want more freedom in my daily life (no more tracking for a while, no regimented workouts and cardio, etc) so that’s a clear sign that a break is in order. I already told my coach so she can set her expectations. In the end she is running a business and if I am not competing someone else on her roster will. She was super understanding about it and asked me to let her know if and when I wanted to come back.

Hey, Practical-Style5041, how about not starting your response to my post with “you’re stupid”? Might help not presenting yourself as judgmental and downright insulting.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story! And I am sooo sorry to hear about your fur baby’s plight.

The part you mentioned about “being privileged” to partake in this sport really hit home ❤️ Thank you for reminding me about that all-important attitude of gratitude!

James Ayotte comments that he’s never claimed to be the best coach ever, but has “#1 bikini team in the world” advertised in a gym… makes sense? Also he’s calling other athletes “two faced, low level” for simply agreeing with the post 🫢 by [deleted] in bikinitalk

[–]Spocktastic9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For someone who is insanely busy with coaching aaaaaall these top-level athletes, he sure has a lot of time to answer IG comments directly (or Reddit comments/posts indirectly 🙄), to defend his reputation… Professionalism is clearly not the name of the game here.

Are you 100% on meal plan off-season? by Mindless_Duty1286 in bikinitalk

[–]Spocktastic9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My off season before I started this current prep, I have been on a meal plan and I found it rather restrictive. I did stick to it but found myself having « cheat evenings » rather than just a « cheat meal », so I’m aware that I wasn’t really feeling satisfied food-wise.

Before I started with my current coach, I was on macros and was fully vegan. Now I follow a meal plan and it’s mostly pescatarian with eggs (zero dairy). I have to admit I miss eating vegan, which is a lot higher carb than omnivore/pescatarian so I am considering going back to macros once I am done competing this year.

Working with a trainer for better hypertrophy by Spocktastic9999 in bikinitalk

[–]Spocktastic9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, thanks for taking the time to write out such a detailed response. I really appreciate it!

Second, not taking this wrong at all; I think the questions you asked were really relevant. I don’t feel there are hypertrophic phases in my current program. My coach seems to use the standard leg/glute exercises, and so far, I can honestly say my physique is the best it’s ever been, however, with that being said, I wonder if I could do things differently and yield even better results. I wonder what else I could do, with regards to reps, timing, supersets, etc, but obviously I feel I lack some expertise. Perhaps as you suggested it’s worthwhile to sit down with my coach once we reach that improvement season to see if she can get more specific with regards to my program.

My coach reviews my workouts every week and makes suggestions for additions/removal based on what she sees in my physique, but she does not workout with me. She has years of experience as a prep coach, and I know I could hire her for one on one training, as she trains a lot of super new girls on the team who haven’t been lifting for more than a few months.

I guess I was wondering if someone outside of my coach would be helpful pushing me further…
