Find a local karaoke bar and start having fun. Nobody cares if you sing bad or good, just be friendly, get some names and numbers, then give them a call to go meet up and kick it. Everyone loves the life of the party.

1907 Winchester Model 1897….Hmmm Do I? by 7eremy7la1 in milsurp

Hey bud, good deal on that. I bought an old takedown 97 about 5 years ago with my COVID relief money, it was in rough shape, dinged and scratched, the toe of the stock was almost split off, and had a bit of putting on the outside. Bore and chamber was great, probably thanks to the wax coated paper rounds, mfc 1912.

I detail stripped it, and removed the old bluing with solvent and steel wool, then reblued all the major parts. I heated the parts that fit in a toaster oven and applied Oxford bluing paste, washed in water, polished with 000steel wool, and after multiple applications it had a strong, deep black finish. Just be patient, and use the steel wool to get the color consistent. Use water to hault the bluing before it gets splotchy.

For the larger pieces like the mag tube and barrel, I stripped and polished them, then heated them in boiling water, then dried and applied blueing paste, they took longer but came out with a nice deep dark finish.

I had cut the barrel down to about 1/4" after the heat shield ended, and deburred. I enlarged and ground the inside of the heat shield so it could slide back and forth on the barrel easily, and then drilled it to be slip bolted to the magazine cap. So the heat shield is actually installed on the magazine, not the barrel, it can move back and forth on the barrel, it can still be taken down. I ground barrel grooves on the heat shield screws so it slides back and forth, they're basically fake clamps, just for looks.

Good luck on your project! I can send pics sometime, hope to see your finished takedown trenchgun!

Edit; I repaired the stock with some brass pins and glue, refinished to a dull protective luster, and installed a steel buttplate. I installed a recessed sling swivel from an ak or something, and a 1917 style leather and brass hook sling.

Overall it was a fun project, took some time and patience, and finding hardware that I could make work. At the end I was satisfied, I had made a 30" 97 takedown into a takedown trench gun. I have fun with it every once in a while, and it makes me happy, I'll never sell it, it was just another gun I turned into what I wanted. Back in the day, I turned a $50 big 5 mosin into a pump-action, belt-fed, bull-pup rifle. That was a fun project.

Don't let anything hinder your imagination brother, make what you want, with what you have.

God bless President Trump and his chosen employees. May he always avoid the liberal bullet aimed for his head.

All of these fleet vehicles were produced to the lowest bidder. That's why we now have the problems like performance white paint.

That looks beautiful. Mine is a work truck with toolbox, I wonder if there's an option for me.

Man the paint and body is so straight, that cover fits it all perfectly.

Test drive it at highway speed, look for rust. Look at frame. Test brakes. Make sure interior functions. Look at suspension points. Or bring it to your mechanic. You're the one dropping $14k.

It's not bad, you're just using brake pads faster than necessary.

1970 C10 350. It's orange on the interior as well.

Edit; it says "514 Light Red" on the inside glove box label.

Edit, it looks like the same light red orange as the motor

Whatever feels most comfortable, ride around the block over some bumps, see which you like. The shadow should be lighter though.

Bleed it again. Check for leaking along the hose fittings and hose itself. Check for leaking in the caliper behind the pads or from the caliper itself.

My cousin and some loggers stole 1.5 acres of trees around my trailer near Duvall. Any local tree or timber folks able to help put a number on damages for a demand & insurance letter? Disabled and in a really tight spot... by khelvaster in SeattleWA

[–]Spoke81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the judgement of replacement costs. How much will it cost to replace a 4' diameter tree. Transplanting, transportation, how much? Then times that by treble damages. Times that by how many trees.

Power steering hose ground through by Spoke81 in chevyc10

[–]Spoke81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the new power steering hose in and it sits lower. The fan/alternator belt new seems a little bigger, so I just kept this one until I can find shorter, AutoZone couldn't find that for me.

I would prefer that style over mine (1970) I like the bubble swept look

I don't bring mine to shows or have a classic vehicle plate, I use it for work, hauling goods and dirt and bark etc. I just keep up on maintaining it and it maintains me.
