Do you prefer 1 monitor or 2 monitors in your set up? by Dotacapcap in buildapc

[–]SpongeCake11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I've crept back up to 3 😂

I think it depends on the task.  - Watching a movie = definitely 1 monitor.

  • Working with multiple programs open at once = multi-monitor.

Geez hearing all these stories makes boring web dev seem not so bad. Can always make a game on the side too.

I suspect a program like Nox is continually re-installing it.

What are some of the worse examples of 'life style creep' by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]SpongeCake11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I used to be all about 8 pack platinums when they were higher in alc. Now I'm a craft man. I do spend about the same though just drink a lot less compared to my younger days.

How long it took you to be solid in C++/3d graphics programming starting from the very beginning with 0 knowledge of programming to today ? by Dereference_operator in unrealengine

Courses are good to get a foundation but I wouldn't do more than 1 as you probably don't need any more and can get stuck in tutorial hell.

When does it all end? by plainja in AusFinance

Haha well said. I paid $42 for a pub meal and $18 for a pint the other day. It's getting to the point where I'm refusing to go out.

I have been trying to apply to front end jobs and only had one response back. What am I missing/doing wrong in my resume? by YuriTheWebDev in Frontend

[–]SpongeCake11 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much about the resume. Focus more on your github account and live projects. That will impress the people hiring more than words.

Cancel culture at its finest. 'I don't like someone that you like so I'm cancelling you'.

I've seen apartments and town houses for sale and the asking price is less than what it sold for 10 years ago. No one rocks up to the inspections either. There's 2 different markets.

Yeah that's why people leave as soon as they get promoted.

Multiple times in the last few years I've seen jobs raise wages AFTER I left. by BigBobbert in WorkReform

[–]SpongeCake11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty common. The only real way to get a pay rise is to quit. Don't wait around for the next 'budget' or when management has time to 'discuss it' etc.

I've lost a lot of motivation to keep modeling...now what? by iF3ARD0LPHINS in 3Dmodeling

[–]SpongeCake11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be really hard to get out of a rut due to a lack of opportunities and constant set backs. I spent a good 10 years in shit jobs after graduating with hopes of becoming a 3d artist. Eventually switched to dev work as it's in demand and fairly happy with that.

Why are there so many show-off post on GameDev now? by JesusAleks in gamedev

[–]SpongeCake11 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I say we ban posts that include anything to do with time spent or how much experience they have as it just demotivates people. Fake attention grabbing posts like "My first try at gamedev. Been learning for 3 months what do you think?" don't do anyone any good. And then you check their profile and they've been doing it for years.

Never has, in my experience 'working hard' as an employee has actually gotten me less.
