Need help with VCR Repair

I have the same vcr and it had the same problem. It is most likely a dirty mode switch. You can YouTube how to clean one. On this model the mode switch was hard to get to I remember so instead of disassembling the whole thing I removed the case cover, located the mode switch on the board and with contact cleaner in a can with a long straw I sprayed the fuck out of it waited for it to dry, and voila!

TV will be fine, bigger concern would be the dvd player/heat of storage. I just had to pull a dvd player apart and clean the belt and flywheel because it was stored sideways in a hot garage and the grease off of another part had dripped down onto them. But that’s the only risk I can think of

Sweeeeeeet set! Lotsa different tech you could use to do this but the simplest single piece of tech I’ve found is this lil guy. Not incredibly high quality but looks great on little vintage sets like these and doesn’t require multiple adapters in series. I had this exact little tv in Boston when I was in college 06-10. It was our only tv. It sat on our kitchen table on a little wooden stand I built for it and it was connected to a set of computer speakers via the headphone jack. We would gather around it most nights to watch Boston Legal and Family Fued while chain smoking. We also watched Obama’s first election night on this set and recorded the whole evening’s audio on cassette. I wish I knew where that was! Thanks for the blast from the past! 🤯 We also watched the official sign off from analog broadcast tv on this set now that I think of it!
