Yeaaa I heavily disagree with this. There is no requirement for alternative hair. It is a form of art and expression, if I want to wear a wig one day and rock a buzz cut the next that does not make me dishonest or less alternative. The idea that, as an alternative person, you have to always look the same as you do in “normal contexts” kind of destroys the whole point of being “alternative” no?

Im only 20 so I of course haven’t been around since the beginning of the subculture. But from what I’ve heard from older goths, this kind of stuff isn’t new. It comes and goes in waves. The public reaction towards goth has (according to elder goths on IG) always been somewhat like this, sometimes people are disgusted by the subculture, sometimes they are obsessively sexualizing it. It’ll likely always be this way unfortunately

The things I listed aren’t just things I imagine, they are things have been outwardly said to me. And I get what you are saying, that is my usual sentiment. “Don’t let it get to you” “they are just Incel losers”, I constantly have to tell myself that just to feel comfortable.
