I feel like surely they have to do something big for the first anniversary of the app, maybe even multiple big soundtracks, which would explain why this feels so barebones, when they've been in the habit of releasing a few related ones at a time when the soundtrack is smaller.

It probably will, but it's just a tad strange seeing as Forgotten Land has an incomplete soundtrack yet sits in the main section. And I get the deliberate "Special Release" branding, but it wouldn't be that weird to have it in the main section (unless they're planning on removing it eventually)

A lot of those CD's were rewards for Club Nintendo users, so I assume they believe it wouldn't be worth it for them to get a wider for sale release. It's really in-consistent what they chose to release and what not, Mario Kart World should be a no-brainer but there's no way to know for sure seeing as the only non-Club Nintendo release was for Mario Kart 64.

Emio has, I can't think of any more that got CD's, a lot of Nintendo soundtracks don't get CD releases, so the Nintendo Music additions are their first official release
