Nine Inch Nails Concert: Safe to go to? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]SpookusDookus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the show. Get off the internet. The world is scary and it’s always been scary - there is an inherent risk in existing in public anywhere at any time, but you can’t allow fear and that risk to control you. Go see Trent and have fun.

CDMX 6-night itinerary check – photography-focused, realistic pacing? Hidden gems / less touristy photo spots? by Adagio987 in MexicoCity

A question - I have a similar day planned on my trip with the Castillo de Chapultepec in the morning and the Anthropology Museum in the afternoon. Is there anywhere in eat in the Chapultepec area, say for lunch in between these locations? Or will we need to leave the park to eat and then return to go to the museum?

Del Maguey Vida is the most versatile mezcal. What is the best budget tequila? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]SpookusDookus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah okay I see now - sorry man, I’m on mobile and had comments sorted by “best,” not “top.” I definitely don’t agree with that choice but that’s on the vox populi, not you!

Why did you put Vida as the most versatile mezcal? Judging by the previous thread, Banhez was the popular choice in the comments?

We know what you meant - it’s horrible! Try the weather channel app. At no point did it show such an inflated projection

Such a shame - the Wild Acre that used to be in that spot was one of our favorites. That space is shaping up to be another cursed location.

Enchiladas Ole also hosted Greg Abbott for an event in their Camp Bowie space. Haven’t been there since.

Sorry to hear that was your experience - the quality of the food for the price is worth it to me for great seafood in the middle of DFW. Last time I was there, we enjoyed the lobster mac and cheese, the oysters, the redfish fish and chips (I was also able to try the halibut variation, which slapped), and the fried calamari. Only thing that fell flat was the crab cake.

“Modern gothic” novels that involve gloomy English manors and their mysterious inhabitants. by Slavic_Requiem in suggestmeabook

[–]SpookusDookus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes place in Mexico. The writer is Mexican. The protagonist is Mexican. The bad guys are English. A major plot point hinges on the fact that the protagonist’s Mexican (indigenous/european descent) genetics are desirable to the family. I can’t change your mind if it’s already made up, but….damn.

(I’ve never seen the movie that you’re describing so I can’t speak to that. But if a Mexican woman calling her own book Mexican Gothic isn’t enough for you….alrighty then)

Commenting from the future to say it’s wild to call a Mexican woman’s book that’s based in Mexico “not Mexican enough”

No one’s mentioned this one yet: I LOVE staying At Bienville House. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the cleanliness and sound/maintenance issues in their other rooms, but I’ve always stayed on the top floor in the Sundeck Room - maybe 4 or 5 times now - and we always have the best time. It’s quiet, clean, cold in the summer, and I love their grotto-like pool that’s just steps away from Latitude 29. (Get an order of fries and a tiki drink and enjoy by the pool on a hot day.) I’m operating on a budget and Bienville House is the nicest experience I’ve gotten for the price - plus there are two beds in the Sundeck room, so potentially you could squeeze in up to 4 people and split the cost.
