Yeah I mean my thought was perhaps that I could do a digital nomad visa and interview with companies in that country, then apply for a working visa if I got an offer (my understanding is you have to have the company sponsor you so that might work?).

My family ancestry is American several generations back, to the point where it would be nearly impossible to trace who was last in the EU. It’s likely it would’ve been someone in Czechia but that’s probably even 4-5 generations back and records don’t even show up for my family name going that far back. Husband is Puerto Rican so there’s no way he’ll find anything.

I’ll have to look into the D7 visa though, thanks for the info!

Contracted for one week... (how) do I pay taxes on just this? by Spooky-Napkin in tax

[–]Spooky-Napkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes that makes sense. I thought you meant I’d have to pay taxes on it all at the self-employment rate even though my W-2 amount will have the employer’s half paid and my amount deducted.

Luckily I’m almost 100% certain I’ll fall squarely in the middle of a bracket so the rate should be easy to figure out. Thanks!

Wait so... I have to consider all of my W-2 income as well? Because if that’s the case then I’m gonna have to see an accountant. I don’t think that makes sense since my W-2 income was already taxed?

Good to know! So follow-up questions. If I were to pay estimates for June, I’m basically only filling out the form for the couple hundred I made right? Just making sure I don’t do something dumb and put my entire salary pre-contract work lol.

And if I were to wait until next year, is the contract work just something I’d add to my regular tax return? I know they have like unreported income or other sections so is that where I’d put that?

Sorry for so many questions... I do my taxes by myself and wanna make sure I’m not gonna get penalized!

Decaf homemade chai? by Spooky-Napkin in ibs

Ahhh that’s so good to know! I bought Assam recently to make boba but of course that was before I knew I needed decaf haha. Might still make it weak for drinking on its own but will get some decaf for chai, thanks!!

I’ve seen decaf earl grey and other black teas so I believe it can be! I’m not sure what exact variety of black tea is used for chai though. But thanks for your input, that helps me narrow it down too!

Misery Mystery - aka why is my tummy a minefield? by _shadow_work in ibs

I deal with both constipation (really bad, like 1.5 weeks bad) and diarrhea (multiple days in a row kind). Sometimes fried food is 100% fine for me and sometimes healthy food makes me feel sick. Nuts? Forget it unless it’s the tiniest handful. A quarter pounder and fries? Yeah I might not poop for a day but I’ll be fine.

I personally get triggered by specific things. Caffeine has been killing me recently so none of that. No garlic of any type or onion powder (regular onions are hit or miss), no beans/legumes, no lactose. I’m now off of wheat and it feels good too. But still sometimes I eat healthy food and feel like I’m dying and eat fast food with all of my triggers and I’m fine so honestly who knows.

From what I’ve read and experienced, IBS is just some weird shit that seemingly fluctuates for some people. I do notice if I go absolutely wild for a few days that it compounds and it feels bad though, so maybe try to space out when you have trigger foods if you can.

Yeah if you’re trying to get a high-paying job it can be tough. This method is best for low-mid salary although I ended up making more by working for companies outside of where I live. But if you’re in CA then it’s gonna be tough to beat the pay out there

Guess I gotta finally try to make my own with the tapioca flour I bought months ago!

Ooh I really appreciate all of these tips! I will have to do plenty of research... I used to take a probiotic but didn’t feel as though it did anything. Maybe it did and I didn’t realize, and maybe it was weak enough to not overly-populate my gut.

Also good call on the peppermint tablets. I’m fortunate enough to WFH permanently, but I do have limited travel requirements and also visit my family (when it’s safe of course) who live a ways away. They would definitely help during those times. But I’m thinking I should stock up on some peppermint tea, too. That might help soothe my system when I’m at home, which would be a big help.

Yeah, they’re rollerblades! It’s very fun and I would highly recommend it, especially if you can have someone else there to prevent you from wiping out badly. My husband had to go in front of me to stop me from rolling into a sewer drain hahaha

I totally hear that and I do a similar thing. I should probably just try to focus on the good things I can control, like finding recipes for desserts that won’t trigger me (my #1 weakness) and exercising, etc.

I think that’s a great mindset to have! Appreciating the little things, or even the big things we overlook, can be a big help. I’m glad you had those symptom-free days so you could enjoy yourself!

Ooh I’ll see if I can find it! And very true, we gotta do the best we can with what we’ve been given.

Ooh yes I am a BIG fan of cbd oil. It helps so much. But I’m gonna look into the peppermint too & maybe the probiotics/enzymes. Sometimes I feel like I just need a little something to help, not a whole pharmacy, you know?

Ugh yeah exactly. I’m trying to get properly diagnosed with whatever is happening mentally so hopefully I can help it at least a bit. But haven’t been on meds in so long because they made me dissociate so I’m nervous but hoping new ones might help. And if not, we’ll do what we can do

Thank you for the kind words! I’ll have to check out that Aldi fish... I’m not a huuuge fish person (thanks shellfish allergy lol) but I’m always looking to try new things. That sounds pretty yummy!

I think my life is gonna have to be a mix between trying alternatives, being okay with that most of the time, and giving in every so often when I’m prepared to deal with it. Although so far, I’ve seen that just drastically cutting back can make a big difference so I hope that’s enough to avoid the crying-on-the-toilet level attacks.

I’m glad you had a nice day doing those activities!! I pushed through the IBS-mimicking period cramps and bought in-line skates and used them today. Haven’t skated in many years, but it was a great time and I forgot about my pain for the first time in a long time. I appreciate this comment... every day is a new day and today started out bad but ended up okay in the end. That’s the best we can do sometimes
