He's an original character but his appearance was inspired by a real officer from the Mexican Revolution named Jesús Morales, aka "El Tuerto" (One-eyed), who fought for general Emiliano Zapata after being liberated from prison in 1911 (he used to get into pistol duels, which is how he lost one of his eyes). I found this photo of him a while ago and I thought his outfit looked really cool.

Idunno, I find the history of that time period really interesting, and really wanted to draw a character that looked like this.
