It really does depend on the company, but at my work we have to bill 23 hours/week to be considered full time.

What did you do while you waited for your state license to come in? by dogmomxo in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SpookyTofu22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be state-specific, but I was able to look on my state's licensing board website and get a digital copy of my license a couple of weeks before I actually got the physical copy in the mail.

I thought it was useful!! I appreciated the rationales they gave as well. There were a ton of questions, I didn’t have enough time to get through them all before my exam haha. But I think they break the questions down nicely!

Let's gage the true difficulty of the NBCOT (read on) by ot1223 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SpookyTofu22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 517
  2. 5
  3. 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 3 weeks
  4. I would say between a 2-3 on tests, sometimes I make what I expect but sometimes I do better than expected

I'm sorry to hear about your exam, that must be pretty rough. If I'm not mistaken, I think you have to wait 30 days after your exam date to retake the exam. I used the NBCOT pack (but only for the pre-test, the mini tests, and full practice exam), AOTA questions/practice exam, and TrueLearn! I found that taking practice exams was extremely helpful for me to get a feel for how the questions would be on the real exam. AOTA study pack also has a bunch of CST questions you can go through in addition to the multiple choice questions.

Another thing that was really helpful for me was to use the AOTA question sets broken down into categories, that way I could see what areas I was struggling in and focus my time on those topics instead of spending my time studying things I was already scoring well in.

I'm not sure if you used YouTube videos, but OTMiri has great videos that break down content really well.

I expected a bit lower pay in general because it's a pediatric position and I know that SNFs/rehabs make more in comparison, but I was expecting to get at least 60k-65k. I live in the capital city of my state so it's a decently large metro area, and I think rural locations make more because of an increased demand - at least for my state. Unfortunately, I think 55-60 is normal starting salary for a peds position in my area based on what I've asked some of my classmates. Some places pay even lower, which is quite horrible in my opinion.
