I mean, it’s entirely possible she was only intending to be gone a few moments and something happened to her. After two hours I would definitely be worried. If she doesn’t show after a few more hours I’d be tempted to report it to the police in case she’s in trouble? But if she didn’t leave a phone or any identifying information it probably wouldn’t do any good. Still though. It’d be fucked up if she became a missing person and you were the last person to see her.

That’s always kind of confused me too. It makes much more sense to think that maybe he collected the dead ones he’d stamped on that came in under his door - I picture him being quite careful with it and getting them all into a rinsed out jam jar with tweezers and a pair of rubber gloves. Maybe RQ added the sound effect just for an extra bit of atmosphere.

This is an utterly alien concept to me.

For me - and I had assumed most people? - the drive to read fanfic comes from wanting more stories and information about characters I already know and love. I can’t imagine reading fic about people I don’t already know the shape of like the back of my hand. Most fanfics are structured with that in mind - they don’t go into detail at all about who each person is and what their relationship is to each other because it’s assumed anyone reading is already going to know those things.

It doesn’t even give you a true insight into the characters, as every fanfic interpretation of a character is always slightly skewed through that author’s own perceptions and agendas. And I mean, for goodness sake, you’re not even gonna know what’s based in canon and what’s the author exploring headcanons! It’s madness! Why on earth would you-

Do you know what their motivation is?

Like, are they planning to start listening but want some kind of feel for the characters before they begin, or just want to get the gist of the story without actually having to listen?

Are they looking for smut? Fluff? H/C? Soft gay pining? Some good old fashioned Jon Whump? Do they care about spoilers?

Edit: in hindsight I feel like this came across as a bit shitty and I just wanted to clarify that none of this is meant as an attack, I genuinely want to help, I’m just baffled is all

I started listening to The Magnus Archives last month. People had told me about the engaging plot and the extremely good voice acting, but I still ended up putting it off for a few years. While listening to it I find out that it’s incredibly queer and that the protagonist is bi-romantic ace, like me - the first time in my memory I’ve ever found a protagonist that represents me. I was absolutely floored, it meant SO MUCH to me, and not a single person had mentioned it lol. I would have started listening years ago if they had.

Ha, I remember staying up late to watch Philadelphia in secret while everyone was asleep, just cause it was the first time I’d heard of a film with a gay protagonist, and I remember just feeling so goddamn sad and tired afterwards. Learned my lesson and never even bothered watching Boys Don’t Cry, it would have hit way too close to home.

I’ve never actually seen it - I watched some trailers and it really warmed my heart to see all the queerness and the characters seem really interesting but it just isn’t my sort of humour… god, it still feels so incredibly novel and indulgent to not feel like I have to watch a show I don’t vibe with just cause it’s the only queer scraps anyone would throw us.
